PSU Q: ATX PS adequate for KM2M-Combo L & Athlon 900??

Hey all, I've got an older ATX (not ATX12V) PSU that I thought I was going to use to power a new KM2M-Combo L with an Athlon 900. When I opened the MB box, I realized that I didn't realize that PSU technology had changed (me = newbie w/old hardware).

Can I use the old PSU in this setup?

Okay, I guess I could clarify a little. If a motherboard has the Atx connector and the additional 12V connector, does one *have* to have a 12V connection to power the CPU?

I may be off here, so someone else might want to chime in. Also look at the ATX Specs.

I believe only a P4 will require the separate, square 12V connector. However, if this PSU is very old it is quite possible it can't put out the power required to power newer components. What is the wattage of the PSU and what are the amps for the 3.3v, 5v and 12v rails? Also, what is the brand and model?

You may just want to purchase a new PSU. You can get a reasonable one for $20-$30.

you need to use the p4 connector if it is there on your motherboard. i believe there might be an adapter to change one of you molex 4 pin to a 4 pin atv 12volt.

the p4 connection is there, it gives it more 12 volt power so that it doesn't draw from your atx 20 pin connector to much juice. if you ran it without it, it would burn your atv20 pin wires over time. maybe NOT instantaneously but over time
