PSU Problem - Please Help

Hi

This is my first build and I apologise if the question is incorrect/basic.

I recently bought a Cooler Master RS 550W PSU for a new computer I intend to build. I haven;t bought any of the components as yet (waiting for a ULi based MB and cheaper AMD Dual core).

However, before plugging into the case, I wanted to check if it was working. I connected the power cord to the PSU and power socket and switched on the power. The fan does not seem to move/operate? The switch on the back is set to "I" (not "O") and all the connectors are bare.

Is this a bad PSU or will it only operate if the connectors are plugged into the motherboard etc.

Thanks for any help.

Kind regards,

A (very) worried Newbie

They will only work connected to a motherboard, or if you must test it now you can manually short some pins with a screw driver.

I would just wait for your motherboard if I were you.
