PSU (Power Supply) Advice for the ~500W to ~600W Range

Okay, time for an honest showdown among PSUs. I'm looking for a PSU in the 500 to 600 Watt range, or up to 650W. I might be running dual cards in SLI in the future. Possibly even such power hungry beasts as dual 8800GTXs, but not for a long while yet. So here these are what I've rounded up so far:
I'm up to more suggestions. I had initially picked the Rosewill as thats what Anadtech used in their building guides, but someone suggested I get a better PSU. Hence the Antec and Crucial. I'm not super excited about raising my price limit by a factor of 2! But, since I'm aiming for future proof as I'm pairing the PSU with an EVGA 680i SLI mainboard, if it really is a lot better to move to a better PSU then I guess I can bite the bullet. I'm aiming for a rig around $1500 dollars with tax and shipping and everything, and I'm getting awefully close to that limit if I double my PSU allotment.

EDIT: Fixed link issues.

you believe everything people tell you?

Just look around and see how many threads have been posted on these boards concerning Antec.......

If I was you I would go to http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/index.php and ask them.
Also the Rosewill 500 got an excellent review at Jonny`s site. Personally I would get the 600 over the Antec!!

No thats why I'm in here asking for advice. If a bunch of people all say the same thing then its a pretty good bet that the information has converged to a good opinion to follow.

Also this is my first build, take it easy on a noob who's asking for honest advice.

The Trio is not bad, though I don't know that it would be my first choice.

Since jonnyGuru seems to be the man for PSU advice (especially according to JEDIYoda) I headed over their to read a review or two. The SILVERSTONE ST75F looks pretty nice. He says it runs about $140, but I can't find it for under $160 (@ NewEgg) doing a really quick search via google.

Cruise51, I'll take a look at the Seasonic S-12s.

Corsair is made by Seasonic so look at those too. Also Silverstone (made by Enhance and Etasis), and Enhance (ewiz.com). You sometimes get different deals if you go to eWiz via Pricewatch or Froogle instead of direct. Also check out the Fortron FX600 or FX700-GLN on sale + rebate at the Egg.

I've been looking at this one for my next build:
CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX 620W Three 12V Rails

Seems like a good choice.

I want to know where jonnyGuru buys his PSUs, because he quotes way better prices than I can find, that or the market has really changed in the past 4 months.

I've just about settled on the Silverstone ST75F over the Corsair HX620. Jonny gives them the same score, the Corsair being more efficient than the Silverstone, but the Silverstone has the Corsair beat in price and power, even if he says the ST75F is more of a 700W than a 750W.

Now if only I could find the ST75F for the $140 Jonny mentions.

Ahh screw it. I'll just pay the $12 dollar premium and buy it from NewEgg. Atleast I know the Egg is a reputable dealer. That way my whole rig will come from NewEgg.

So here's my rig as it stands in the form of a <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=4707231&WishListTitle=Gaming+Rig+%2D+Round+3
">NewEgg list</a>. Comments, suggestions?

Axiontech and Directron are the same company now I've had good experience separately and together. Case-Mod seems to hit the low price bracket on Froogle quite often as does East Luna. I've been tempted on several occasions but failed to succumb...

It's good to check ResellerRatings, but remember that their ratings can be manipulated and that folks with negative experiences will make the effort to vent about it in much greater percentage than folks with uneventful experiences. I'd say that any outfit that has at least twice as many positives as negatives would be safe to deal with.

Deadeye is a new-ish boutique retailer that was advertising at jonny's forum for a while... Read nothing but good reports.

Also the Rosewill 500 got an excellent review at Jonny`s site. Personally I would get the 600 over the Antec!!

Actually I gave him the origjnal advice. Rosewill varies from model to model as to actually who the OEM is. So the 500W PSU JonnyGuru reviewed (yes I saw that review also) might be good, the 600W the OP linked could be complete crapola.

I try to suggest parts based on my first hand experience. Corsair 620W is a pretty safe bet IMHO.

I have an Enermax 660W monster that is pretty impressive. It retails for about $200 but I got mine for around $70 new on eBay.

At least if you are going to play with my comments and edit them at least call out the edits. I don't want people thinking I would even consider a Rosewill.

I would definitely agree with you that Antec has taken a nosedive and I would avoid them at all costs. Moreso the Truepowers than the new Trios but still..

there is always a chance that he could get a corsair that is bad out of the box, I would be willing to bet the odds are alot lower that he gets a bad corsair than getting a bad rosewill.

Also, I gave him my opinion in another thread, what are you, the thread police or something? ;)

I do take your point though, ten different people could make ten different responses each giving yea or nay to the exact same PSU based on their experiences.

At some point the OP just has to pull the trigger.

[sarcasm]Ah flamewars, trolling, misquoting, and word-twisting. I love the smell of carnage in the forums.[/sarcasm]

Come on people, if you quote someone make sure its in the right context. I agree with PClark99 in this respect. Also, take some time when posting to make sure what you intended to convey is clear. This is one case where good grammar, punctuation, spelling, and such are important. It keeps people from blowing up at each other. A little bit of care with the formating of a post helps a lot too.

EDIT: If you must know, I fixed a spelling error to follow my own advice.
