Hello, i am thinking of building a new pc! I used an online psu calculator and it says the new build will consume 600Watts! I found a 650 psu with 85% efficiency.

I have found how the efficiency works, and if i am correctly, according to these numbers my psu will draw about 700Watts, converting 100 wats to heat or something. Does that mean i will need more than 700 psu? or is there something i have missed?

EDIT: Another calculator says minumum PSU wattage 594, and recommended 644!

Here are the components, it might help you help me!

Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+
8Gb DDR3 Ram
Amd fx 8320, 8 core, 3,5GHZ
Gigabyte 970A-D3
One regular sata and one Dvd-RW

The system you listed consumes around 300W when gaming. You're fine with any good quality PSU that has the necessary power connectors for your graphics card.

But why yould yo uget a 9800 GTX+? That's a very, very old card. I suggest making a thread in General Hardware according to the template in the sticky

Where are you buying from?

i am buying from a store named plaisio.(www.plaisio.gr) I am from greece.

And the video card i posted is the one i currently have which will be the last thing to get changed! For now i am worried about the other components.

Thank you for you reply and could you be kind enough to explain to me how you caclulated the 300 Watt while gaming?
If you are correct i wont need to change my 550 Watt psu.

EDIT: i was thinking of buying this video card as well eventually. Palit Geforce GTX650 1GB

I still think it'd be a good idea to post a thread in GH just so you get the input you need to get the most out of your upgrade.

Thank you for you reply and could you be kind enough to explain to me how you caclulated the 300 Watt while gaming?

Some of the numbers are closer to 200W, it really depends on the system and whether you're looking at DC or AC watts. 300W is a safe number, you really don't need a huge unit.

What is the 550W unit you own?

try www.e-shop.gr
I have tried that and has very good hardware, latest ones only.
Don't buy that card, seriously.
If you want good graphic cards to be running on your system, try to choose the Amperage in the 12V+ too since that is the one which will give power to the GPU when it is connected with the 6-pin / 8-pin adapters.
I would suggest at least a 7770HD graphic card with what you are going to buy
