PSU installation question

My 15 month old 350W Kingwin PSU went gave up the ghost with a little puff of smoke late last night. Yeah, I was looking for a reason to get one of those quiet Seasonics but I luckily have a spare Enermax 430W lying around.

Now on to my question:

On a PSU with 2 fans, where does the one facing the inside of the case point? Upwards towards the top of the case or downwards toward the CPU? I have installed it pointing downwards, but now I'm not too sure.

I want to to do a decent job of wiring up the rig before I turn it on again with a prayer that the Kingwin took no other components out with it.

Thanks!

Why would you point the intake fan towards the top of the case? That would be exceedingly counterproductive, and could damage the PSU if it wasn't getting enough airflow like that.

Yeah, common sense tells me that it should point downward, besides the fact that the case will not accept the PSU the other way (screw holes don't match). 😀

But after i installed the PSU, text on the PSU was upside down, which is what prompted the question.

I just took the dead Kingwin apart to attempt to see what area has burnt itself out.

I cant find any trace of burnt components in the murky mess of wires, wlthough my nose tells me otherwise.

Funnily enough, the PSU fuse is intact, strikes me as odd. Any thoughts?
