I purchased

an ABiT AN8 Ultra
X2 4400
2 SATA II 160GB Drives
Gforce 7800 GTX
DVD Burner

Will a Ultra X-finity 350W Power supply run this system?

If not can you recommend a power supply for under $100

I already have the X-Finity and want to make sure I don't break anything by using it

thanks,

Jesse

Will it run the system? Yes.
Will your system go all wonky because you're not giving it enough power? Yes.
You're going to want a quality PSU with at least 480W; if you want to go modular, I simply don't see how you can stay under $100. Break your little sister's piggy bank and stop skimping on the most important part of your machine.

Everything in your box will thank you in the long run.

that psu will, but it would be stretching the psu a bit. for $100 you can get a pcp&c 470w silencer or a tagan 480w u22. the ultra x psu's are comparable to a generic unit (often displays the maximum output rather than a normal current).

Get the xclio 450 or the FSP Fortron 450-- they are good and cost $50. Not modular, but inexpensive and would be fine.

Ultra products = more flash than substance.

Okay well if I'm gonna go for a more expensive PSU, what would be your suggestions I can probably afford a 120 - 130 but that's stretching it for me as I'm a poor college student especially after buying all these other components

your psu will run it for a day or two if lucky and then blow everything up.
exaggerateing a little, but it is not a good PSU. it will probably go out with a bang and fry somethings with it.

for under 100, the fortron blue storm 500 is a great choice. I have it and its awesome. you can get it at actbuy.com for 78 bucks shipped.

you dont even need that much. I think he ment that the ultra was streching it. 100 bucks is already way sufficient for a PSU.
