PSU/FX5500 question

My neighbor bought an Evga Fx5500 256mb video card to replace his onboard video. He did it so his son could play some games,but nothing that really requires a high powered one. Here are the specs for the ps that came with the computer..

This power unit has (1) ATX 20pin connector, (1) ATX12V Connector, (4) peripheral power connectors, (2) floppy drive connector,The Fx5500 call for 250w and +12v 18a. Is another psu recommended?and any recommendations? you can see what connections the factory psu has.Thanks
 
i seriously doubt an FX5500 requires 18A. I don't think he'll have any issues with that low end card on his current power supply. I'd try it first before buying a new power supply, and if it doesn't work, then upgrade.

Makes sense. What kind of problems should he be looking out for? Any recommendations on a new ps,if needed. He mailnly shops at newegg,if that helps.Thanks

Thanks for the info. That looks like it should be fine. This ps will have all the connections that are required? He has the 120gb hd,two dvd burners,and a 9-in-1 card reader.
I have this psu that I bought awhile back and never used it. I would sell it to him if it would work?

Not worth it. Newegg has cheap shipping, and Fortron PSUs almost never come broken. I didn't realize your budget was up there, in that case you COULD get these:

Fortron AX400 400W PSU ($40)
or Fortron AX450 450W PSU ($50)

Both will be a lot better than the Thermaltake (actually even the 350W is better). Look at the TT PSU. Only a single +12 V rail at 18A. The Fortrons have almost 2x the amperage spread over 2 rails for stability. So simply, the TT PSU would work but the Fortrons are much better than pretty much anything else in this price range.

If I were you I would just tell your friend to get the 350W Fortron; it will be more than enough for his system.
