PSU Fried?

Well i posted a thread a while back about putting new fans in my PSU. Well i finally opened up the cover and it looked like someone dumped a bucket of white icing all over the PSU! It looks as if all the capacitors exploded!

It still runs and i dont have a new PSU yet. Im trying to hold out and see if there are any black friday deals. Do you think it will be alright to just leave it running like that. For all i know its been like that for months. Or should i not take the risk.

Just go ahead and get yourself an ultra x-connect from powmax.

j/k

Personally, I wouldn't leave it hooked up. What model was it?

Allied ALA400ATX.

Lol.... im deciding between OCZ and Seasonic. The only thing with the seasonic is, not much future proofness, and i have 4 80mm case fans, so quieting down my PSU isn't going to do much.

Lol i knew it was coming. I am definately having a hard time deciding between the two. The way i see it is i have 4 80mm Panaflo Low Speed Fans running at 1/2 speed. I also have a 92mm Panaflo fan for my processor.

The Seasonic is quieter than the OCZ however im thinking that it isn't going to matter because i have a good amount of noise in the rest of my case. I will have more use for an extremely stron feature laden PSU, that a quiet (little less powerful one). If i were to get the Seasonic i would get the one with the 120mm fan. If i got the OCZ i would get the 420Watt.

higher efficiency -> less heat -> less noise.

ocz 63%, ocz 600w 73%, seasonic 80%. wasting 37% is wasting almost twice as much as wasting 20%.
oh and getting the better ocz (600w) is wasting alot of money 😛

That sounds like a pretty quiet system to me, L1As at 1/2 speed are nearly completly silent. The same can be said for the 92mm Panaflow depending on it's RPM. So I would say get the Seasonic.
