PSU fried, gotta question about CPU

my firend comp kept turning off by itself, he used it for 2-3 minutes and it shut of. i touched the PSU and it was very warm after sitting for 15 minutes while shut off (this was after 2-3 minutes of use). i figured it was a PSU issue but i opened up the case to see if all the wires in place cuz he kicked the computer a few times. anyway, after i plugged it back in i heard a pop and smelled smoke from the PSU. what are the odds that the mobo, cpu, or anything else got fried as well?

my psu just fried on a cold boot one day on my p3 system about two years ago....bought a new psu and the same system is still in use
