PSU for the fallowing system?

Im in college so im on a budget so i cant go all out and get a 900W psu or anything

But what would be an appropriate PSU for the fallowing system:

A64 2800+
Chaintech VNF-250
BFG 6800 oc
1gig Corsair RAM
NEC dvd-rw
brandless CD-rw
onboard sound/lan
2 80gb 7200rpm HDD

and i use like maybe 1 or two of my usb ports (ipod, digital camera)

I want a PSU that would fit this system, and since im on a budget i dont realy need anything overkill, just something that would match well

I heard Powmax is a good cheap PSU from some people here lately. :disgust:

Fortron underrates their PSUs, so you're probably getting a bit more amperage than listed.

Last I heard, Super Flower is supposed to be good as well; they use TTGI.
 
a while back i sacrificed and bought an antec 550 although a 350 watt would have sufficed for me.
but i didnt know what i might be doing in 2 years or even three with my stuff.
with all the new stuff that comes out and the power needs of it i say bite the bullet and get a decent psu and you wont have to ever upgrade it again, or at least for a long time.

i have upgraded several parts, cpu mobo, basically have changed everything more then once, but my psu has stayed the same.
i recommend a fortron sparkle 530 for the best power to price ratio out there. and that way when you want a new video card you dont have to buy another psu. nothing like having to buy it twice.

Don't think that 18A on the 12v rail is gonna power 2 HDD's + a 6800...

the 6800's suck up alot of power from what I hear, so I'd play it safe and get at least 22A's on the 12v rail, if not more.

Don't buy into the wattage hype. The plain 6800s aren't all that power hungry.

Going full tilt, the 6800 puts about a 25W strain on the 12V line. That'd leave around 190W for all the other
components.

Nope, I ran my first 6800 NU with a quality 300 watt PSU, had 18A on the +12V..was also running a Northwoods 3ghz and 2gigs of ram. It was 100% stable for as long as I ran that set-up.


300 quality watts is enough for a 6800 set-up.






 
Yeah, a good 350w psu, fortron, enermax, antec, will be plenty of power for that rig. I was running a 2.8e@ 3.5ghz, with a gig of ram, 6800GT, and 2 raptors, with a 350w enermax.
