PSU for Corsair Carbide Series 500R

Hi All,

I need a psu with around 650 watts for the 500R. This is a large case and I have read that many ppl have had to buy psu extension cables for the cable management to work. I will have two amd 6870 cards for crossfire. I would appreciate any recommendations for a quiet psu with extra long sleeved cables for under $100 (less is better).

Thanks!

XFX 650W $68 ($53 AR). Built by Seasonic, similar in quality and performance as a Corsair TX650 V2, but has four PCIe connectors so it's good for 6870 CF out of the box. It's pretty quiet and the cables should be long enough... The only cable you MAY have to extend in order to route behind the mobo tray, although I doubt it, is the EPS cable. You can check the exact cable lengths here (bottom of page)

is 650 watts enough? should I increase my budget?

My set up will include: 3570 w/asrock z77 Pro4, 3 hdds, blu-ray burner and 16gb ddr3

At stock, 3570K = 77W (tdp), 6870 = 140W each... Total ~360W +12v load at full system stress. A good 650W won't even sweat, it'll be pretty quiet at this load as well. You also have plenty of room for OC.

Another option, slightly overbudget but guarantees the PSU won't make any noise: Seasonic X-750, available on newegg for $120 after promo, see here (until tomorrow night). Fully modular, 80+ gold, silent hybrid fan control. Here are the cable lenghts for this unit. EPS is 4cm shorter than on the XFX unit, you may need extension for 500r.

If you want to run the 8 pin out of sight as much as possible... in a case that mounts the PSU in the bottom. Its likely a good idea to just go ahead and order an extension. Usually the 8-pin is close to the top of the board.

That's just my opinion of course.
