PSU for Antec P180

I'm thinking of getting the Antec P180 case for my new build in a few months and I was wondering what does everyone think is the best PSU to get with it? I'm going to be gaming a LOT on the pc and hope to have a directx 10 card along with Conroe in it early next year so good stable power is a must. according to reports a modular PSU is best for this case as the motherboard is a long way from the psu. on the antec site they recommend the following:

Antec recommends choosing from our SP-500 power supply or Phantom, Neo/NeoHE or TruePower 2.0 series.

Does anyone have any opinions experience on what PSU to get?

I've read of problems with modular P/S's with the P180's. I have 4 of the cases now and use Seasonic S12's with all of them. I recently bought a new S12 and they have wrapped the wiring and also made all the wires somewhat longer. The old S12's did reach everything fine but not with a lot of extra play.

I just built one with a Neo550. Honestly, the way it's laid out, I used 4 of the 5 modular connectors and there are still wires everywhere. The only place a modular helps is with keeping your spare lines that you don't use from getting in the way of the bottom fan. You can always string them up and hide them in the middle section of hard drive bays anyway. I have a TP2 EPS also and I seriously doubt there would be much difference in using it versus the Neo for the P180 unless you really want a modular.

I have my doubts about using the phantom in the p180, I think it would get really hot with just that one fan blowing on it. There is no room in the bottom chamber to let the heatsinks "breath".

To be honest I don't really have a preference between modular or regular I had just read that modular was a better bet with the case lay out!! if the seasonics will do fine I might get one of those!! I'm trying to err on the side of caution and get as good a PSU as I can who know what power consumption new hardware will require

If you want low noise then seasonics are hard to beat. Make sure you get a sleeved one though, a slightly newer revision with slightly longer cables measn that it'll be nicer to use in the P180.

well low noise would be nice but its all about performance really!! i wanna get the best PSU i can..any recommendations? i know all the brands but which one?? enermax, seasonic...etc

Low noise, efficiency, longevity.....Seasonic is one of the best you can buy..............not sure about one thing though, if you're going to use a DFI mobo, you may want to look elsewhere. The reason I bought a new one recently, a Fortron I had crapped out after 3 years and I like the Seasonic so I just replaced it with one. Also, if you're buying the P180, you must be looking at a quiet system so as quiet as can be good hardware should top your list.........

LOL! Well, I wouldn't worry about that a bit as far as a Seasonic goes......Think about it when you make all the other purchases too though!

They are solid, cool, modular and I can't hear them.

I've never used a P180 case before, but I am looking to get one because I really like the design. I currently have a Neo-HE 550 and its been a great PSU, I personally really like the modular cables, because I dont have a need for all of them so with the few that I am using it makes the whole case look a lot cleaner. So I'd reccomend the NeoHE, or at the very least one thats modular.

Performance hit? What are you on about, the power is going to be overkill for anything short of a crossfire X1900XT system. What performance difference do you think there's going to be? Have you modded your wall plugsockets yet?

Based on this level, i'd suggest the Fortron FX700-GLN 700W or Silverstone ST65ZF 650W.
No, they aren't modular, but with the cable sleeving they use, cable management is a non-issue.

Both those two i just listed are superior to the PSUs in your list, & for a similar price range.

I have used 2 enermax models, boty single rail, with the P180 and I have had no issues. I use extension cables for my fans and the 4-pin 12v cable
but that is so I can run the cables under my mobo. YMMV depending on board design and cable organization of course.

Thanks for the reply about the Fortron FX700-GLN 700W or Silverstone ST65ZF 650W they seem very good models alright!! I know I'm totally going for overkill at the moment but I want a PSU that will last me for a few upgrades. Who knows what power hungry devises will rare there ugly heads in the coming months.
