PSU For a brand new rig

Guys, I need some help finding a PSU for my comp. I am ordering all the pieces and building it myself, which I have no experience with. The motherboard will take a 24 pin ATX power supply or an ATX 2x4 pin and I'm not sure which I should use. Here are the system specs.........

Gigabyte GA-785GMT-USB3 Motherboard
Apevia X-Qpack Cube Case
Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition CPU
8gb DDR3 1600 Dual Channel Memory
Sapphire Vapor X Radeon HD 5770
Seagate Barracuda 750gb 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive

After that just an optical drive and a card reader but I don't want to order anything until I figure out what kind of PSU I should use because the case comes with a 500W supply which I'm not sure will be sufficent and Apevia, that I know of doesn't make a great power supply. By the way can anybody give me a little input as to how this should perform as a gaming rig? Thank you guys for any feedback.

I would get a quality 450-550W PSU, maybe a 600W if you think you may crossfire or get a X2 card in the future. Any good brand will be fine. I would suggest Corsair, Seasonic, PC P&C, Antec. Cant go wrong with any of them

The 24-pin is the "main" power connector. The 2x4 pin is an additional 12V power connector. Your motherboard requires both to be connected to start the computer.

I see now. That is awesome to know and as I said I have never built a computer before so connecting the PSU is a foreign concept to me. I have upgraded RAM and video card, aside from that I really only know what I've seen in an out of the box comp. I feel like a little bit of a moron for asking these things but I need to know before I go shopping. Thanks again
