PSU emits a high pitched tone

So my Antec PSU is emitting a very high pitched, almost unnoticeable pitch whether the computer is on or off . . . only by switching the supply off itself does the pitch stop.

My guess is it is time to buy a new PSU, but I wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this. Thanks.

The lacquer that covers the wires in the inductors inside the power supply is probably going bad allowing the wire to generate noise. It happens quite a bit in switching supplies. It doesn't mean the supply is going bad, but it can be annoying. You can open up the supply , with cord unplugged, and tap on the transformers, large coil of wires with the plastic end of a screwdriver and it will usually stop.

What brand Antec ?? I have a box full of SmartPower 2.0 units (probably 24+ in that box) that are all dead or dying due to swollen caps.

Thread on the dreaded Fuhkkyu caps !

Fuhkkyu is right !!! :(

If I am right, your PSU will die a horrible death in less than a month. Yank it before it takes some components with it.
