PSU died...time for another one!

Hi there, time for another PSU. Not sure which to get. Here is my setup:

x1900xtx
2gb OCZ ram
4200+ amd dual core
PowerStream (SLI-Ready) OCZ520ADJSLI 520W: +3.3V(28A), +5V(40A), +12V(33A)
A8N-E Mobo

Anyways... I am wondering what you guys would get for this? I want something I can put in my next computer, so something better than what is needed is fine.

I will be ordering from NCIX.com, here are a list of their top PSUs as well as their weekly specials... Let me know, thanks =)

Yes the Corsair VX550 is a better PSU than the OCZ ModXstream

2nd that!! The Corsair is worth the $5 or more that NCIX sells it for. The OCZ's are okay PSU's, but I'd rather get a better quality PSU for just a bit more. The PSU is by far one of the most important parts of any computer build, IMHO.

Thanks =)

So the wattage isn't the dominant factor on the performance of a PSU? I was just scared because the one I have died was 520, and it died.

The number of 12V watts is more important than the total watts. The temperature at which the power is rated is also important; most lower quality PSUs are rated at 25C which means they will not be able to provide their full power in any normal system (typically 35C+).

Your PSU did not die because it was overly stressed.

especially not when you consider the VX550 is rated for 50C and can easily output 550W at 50C, while the ModXstream Pro is rated at 40C and cannot put out 700W at 45C (it can at 40C, but efficiency is pretty bad at 700W).

So basically the VX550 ends up being nearly as powerful, but has better build quality.
