PSU CPU connectors

I pulled the trigger on a newer and more efficient PSU recently (650W NZXT Hale82) since I couldn't resist the $41AR price, and I was noticing something odd with my old Corsair VX-450w when I was pulling it out yesterday. The Hale82 has two 4pin CPU connectors that can be combined into one 8pin connector, as is pretty standard. However, the VX-450w has a 4pin CPU cable and an entirely separate 8pin cable. Especially considering that the Corsair in not a modular supply and there's a crapload of cable to manage already, is there any good reason why you'd want to have both an 8pin and a 4pin CPU cable on the same supply as opposed to just giving the option through a split connector?
