Is any PSU compatible with any motherboard? I'm asking because I want to replace the PSU in an older computer. It doesn't have to be anything expensive or fancy, but is there anything I specifically need to look for, or will anything work?

newer mobos would want to use 24 pins, 20 for older, though it doesnt matter if you had a 24pin. but since you said old, a 350w sparkle psu will be more than enough, though i only follow by the word "old". whats the specs?

Assumption is that you do not have a Dell or one of the other makers
that use proprietary parts.

Check PC Power & Cooling's wbsite. I think they have power supplies that are compatible with Dell computers.

Yes, I checked there actually. But I was hoping I could just run up to the store and buy one. The Dell model is Dimension 8200.

Any idea if I can use a generic PSU on this model?
