Wow 16 new replies 😀 Thought this thread was long dead.

In the end I got an antec earth watts ea-650. As I understand it should do fine with the second GPU.

I almost bought a chieftec turbo cft 700-c after reading a favorable review but the antec was cheaper and has a better warranty.

There was a report done a while back of retailers in europe and Antec had the highest failure rate for PSU's by far.

how long ago? How old could the PSUs be in the "study"? There were many Antec PSUs built 4-5 years ago with a poor secondary capacitor....newer units are very good and have decent component selection.

At least from seeing newegg reviews for my Antec NeopowerHE 500W PSU, cases of DOA PSUs was rather common with Antec. In fact, the first NeopowerHE PSU I got was DOA. This was back in 2006.

The PSUs the list are the ones I am referring to...the Smart Power series, which are not even sold any more. It's already been stated by myself and others in this thread, and it is worth mentioning again....quality is harder to judge on a company wide basis. Many of Antec's PSUs are made by Seasonic, with the same designs and components as those sold under the Seasonic name....and you see Seasonic has a much lower failure rate in that "article"

I replaced my smartpower twice under warranty.

The Truepower 1 and 2 and all of the Smart Power used fuhjyyu capacitors on the secondary. If your system had even moderately poor ventilation, they would start leaking and fail within a few years.

Since this is a thread about brands of psus....is FSP still around? I'm pretty sure I remember reading reviews that they were a decent brand for low cost PSU's way back in the day...but its been quite a while...

FSP is still around...and I would say their biggest business is making PSUs for other vendors. As a whole they are mediocre, but there are some pretty good ones and some pretty bad ones too.
