In your cast its overkill. A good 550W to 650W PSu is all you need. If you want a good PSU for your system that is modular then go for the HX620.

Hey guys, I've got a question. What is the advantage of using the Branded PSU than generic PSU that usually with the casing when you bought it?

I don't know what cpu you're running, but I went to Corsair's website, used their power supply finder, and took one liberty with your setup........

I did use the 2 X 8800GTX OC'd that you have, two hard drives, and plugged in a quad core Intel cpu, "heavily OC'd", and Corsair recommended only their HX1000....think the two GTX's OC'd, which yours are factory, end up being the big deciding factor. (Yep, even plugging in an OC'd C2D cpu, it still comes up as the HX1000......I'd honestly think the HX620 would be stretching it for a pair of GTX cards in SLI.)

Follow the link below to really find out what Corsair recommends:

And since you've gone to nVidia's SLI site, you KNOW that there are no power supplies below 750W that are recommended for your video card setup, and I'd think that even that "small" a power supply would be pushing it pretty hard. Honestly, I'd rather spend a few dollars more for a higher output unit and not have it running at 90% of its rated output......a higher wattage unit will definitely run cooler, quieter, and last longer due to it not being run so close to it's limit.

Sort of like running a car's engine at 90% of its rpm range constantly for days on end vs. running a car's engine at half of its rated rpm range. Guess which way will kill the engine faster......same would apply to a power supply. Run it at its output limit, and it will run hotter, its cooling fan will have to run faster and louder, and its life span will be decreased.

BTW....Provantage.com has the HX1000 for $224 + shipping, which for me was less than $9 ground.....and they're a great reseller.

I think you missed that he has 2 8800GTX Overclocked

of the Corsairs I wouldn't get below a TX750 for those.

Certainly 550 Watts is not enough for dual 8800GTX...not if you want your PSU to live for long.

As for the HX1000 being the best bang for the buck for his system...there are PSUs out there for less money that will easily run his system. BFG ES-800, Zlaman ZM-850HP, Coolermaster Real Power Pro 750 Watt or 850 Watt, the aforementioned Corsair TX750...Many of the Silverstone PSUs over 750Watts.
