I ordered MSDN OS version for around $200 (educational edition) half a year ago from provantage and decided to register it over the phone. While I was registering the product, I requested whether I could receive the far-east versions of Windows along with the normal English versions of the operating system. If you purchased the package, it states that you could select to include far-east versions of Windows at no extra charge. The customer service representative checked and told me that there is no package of MSDN OS version containing the far-east language versions of Windows available here in the United States. She then asked me if it would be ok for her to place me as an MSDN universal edition subscriber. I was like uhh.... OK!

For those of you who don't know what MSDN universal edition is, it is a subscription where MS ships monthly updates of its software directly to you for a year. The universal edition includes all the current Microsoft productivity, operating system, server, and programming kits/applications software (essentially all the current versions of commercial MS software sans MS games). Plus, you receive archived Microsoft software dating back all the way to MS-DOS 5.0. Plus, all the software come in all the language that Microsoft has published them in.

Please note that you can only use those software for educational purposes. You may not use them for commercial purposes and you may not resell them or distribute them freely on the Internet. Wink wink.

I think the implication of what you can do with it -

Please note that you can only use those software for educational purposes. You may not use them for commercial purposes and you may not resell them or distribute them freely on the Internet. Wink wink.

... is what's dishonest. As a student, I'd be tempted to do this, if I wasn't trying to wean myself off of Microsoft products :) (I'm not anti-MS, but I'm starting to realize that free/cheap software (ie OpenOffice) that is legal is getting to be a better deal than M$ software, legal or illegal :))

Are you sure they are not going to charge you for it later? I would buy the education edition if I could get MSDN for free! Let me know if it thats all I have to do.
