PSP?

Whats the general consensus areound here for the new PSP. BB offers it at retail price $250 You get PSP, spider man 2 movie (UMD) 32 mb memory dueo, headphones with remote, battery, case and some other stuff you really dont need.

As far as I have seen, graphics are AMAZING for handheld. But, does that justify the price? What do you guys think?

I don't plan on getting any of the new handhelds. I can't justify the cost of the PSP. While it is very capable, I just wouldn't use it enough and it is way beyond what I would pay for a handheld system. I have picked up the Nintendo DS and tried it at stores twice and I have hated it twice, so I won't be getting that either.

I think it is a very nice handheld. I was never into handhelds, but this may partly be because with the older gameboys you had to play under a light just to see what was on the screen. even then though it was hard to see and the ascreens were just crap. Even if you bought one of those lights that shine over it that connectto your gameboy it sucked. Then they actually started doing the internal light thing. This is an improvement, but I am really impressed with the PSP's screen.

I would buy a PSP if I had the money. I am still saving up just for a new rig.

Seems like it could be very nice, but it's hard to justify when I'm not even motivated to play the games I already have at home.

Oh yea you probably know this...but just pointing out that it has mp3 capacity (you can get a 512mb memory for only 45.99) and video capacity (And do NOT forget the amount of cash that many people paid for ipods when they came out...im betting the price will drop to $200 sometime and stay there for a while.,)

It's a little expensive at 250 but considering lots decent video cards cost more than that it's really not too bad. I think it's a good value for a handheld that plays like a PS2, and double as a mp3/video/picture player with a very nice widescreen LCD. I just need to save up $250.....

I would wait, as I've heard that a newer revision of the PSP will have an included hard drive. Can't seem to find the link though.

COME-ON THURS!! 😀

i am so there... guys and their toys. need xbox 2, ps3...monster rig.(fx-55/sli dual 6800 ultras).. wide azz screen... just need more time to enjoy it all!!

catch - 22 is i need to work allot to afford all these toys, but that detracts from my game time... ahh, such is life!

I'll be at BB tomorrow morning to pick one up. I had preordered one from an etailer but delivery from that company doesn't seem promising. Plus I've about $125 BB giftcard I received at Christmas that I need to spend.

I already have 512mb memory stick pro duo ordered so I'm set. I have zero interest in picking up games as it's a ripoff at $50 and none of the launch games interest me. I'll be using my PSP for movies and TV shows off the memory stick.

Played with it...its cool, not worth dropping the coin. Maybe if I was 12, but I'm spoiled by my xbox and found the graphics very unpolished.

I got mine tonight, I have no idea what donjohnson is talking about as far as graphics go. checkout wipeout pure, looks spectacular.

imho its worth every penny, one of the few times in my life I have had absolutley 0% buyers remorse. This thing is pure sweetness, the versatility really didnt hit home to me until I actually had it in my hands and realized that for 250 I had the gaming power of a ps2, a portable dvd player, an mp3 player, and picutre viewer all with 802.11b wifi built in.. this thing is truly impressive. Wife loved it so much im going to buy one for her too

when is new one available?

I heard on one of these forums Sony isn't gonna do anything if you get a PSP with any amount of dead pixels. Is this true? The warranty only covers button, drive, ect defects.

I got mine from Bestbuy this morning. Tried to sell me all kinds of accessories, games, and warranty. Told them no thanks. I mean Sony is already making me buy this value pack crap which I don't need. PSP comes with 1 yr warranty and my CC card gives me double.

So far only played around with it for little bit playing the included Spiderman2 movie. I'm very impressed with the picture quality of this little unit and has far exceeded my expectation regarding screen and movie quality. The build quality also seems excellent and is lot smaller than I expected. No dead pixel I can see but I haven't had chance to take close look yet.

Very impressed thus far and can't wait to try out movies via memory stick.

It's obvious you are either an XBOX fanboy or really haven't seen the PSP or you wouldn't have made an assinine statement like that. You are wrong on both accounts...The PSP is geared towards adults and the graphics are amazing. Jesus, it's a freakin' handheld and shouldn't be compared to a full size console (even though the graphics is close to PS2 quality).

Are you sure about that?

I would never buy it since i think its useless. Unless u travel alot. Would be nice to play it during work break but that would be gay. I did hold it for a while at work and man it cant be designed any better! its perfect. Sony did amazing job and i hope they kil nintendo. Im a nintendo fan and love all nintendo stuff (actually hate xbox and ps2) but sony deserves this one becuase they did a sweet job while nintendo ds is soo lame!!!

just pick a value pack up for $250 at Target at 11am. They still have plenty of units left so i don't know how well it's selling. I couldn't resist it. if i don't think it's worth it then i'll just return it or ebay it. Didn't buy any game tho coz games are too $$ and hard to return

anyway, just opened it and took a look. wow... it's a thing of beauty. it's much smaller than i imagined... even smaller than the original GBA (except a little wider). Maybe i can put this somewhere in my car to play movie, or use it like a digital photo frame at home since it plays jpeg.

haven't power it up yet, but I have a feeling i'm going to love it... dang! i think i need to work an extra day or two this weekend...

Just got mine from BB. Its amazing. Worth the $$$ NFS looks and plays great, the spiderman 2 movie looks great! I already connected it to my wireless network and it works great. My only problem with it is the sound, IMO, is too low. My Nintendo Dead System goes on sale tomorrow. 🙂

i think the idea of connecting to any standard wireless network is great. think the possibilities it creates... streaming audio/video, web browsing, multiplayer with anyone in the world, checking email... just too bad it doesn't have a touch screen with stylus like the DS. maybe a keyboard add-on later for instant messaging? maybe i'm expecting too much

If Sony's PSP kills the DS then Nintendo could be hurt since handheld is the only thing they got going.

Anyone who blows $250 on a handheld just because it has "Sony" on it, they are a new kind of idiot. There were handhelds far superior to the GameBoy hardwarewise, but Nintendo still kicked their ass because they were too damn expensive. If you want to pay $250 to play ugly PS2 rehashes and movies on UMD then I have some oceanfront property in Montana that I would like to sell you. What's up with Sony and proprietary media? But I digress; to sum it all up, the PSP = FLOPPAGE!

The PSP is aimed at an audience that doesn't even play handheld games...you know, people that actually have $250 and play games on the train or on the bus...

This isn't Japan.
