PSP: So why didn't Sony go with Memory Stick?

well, using the md player argument is a little unfair. MDs store information in sequential order, and they dont seek as often as a RAM drive, which is what a game disc would do. Not to mention that you have to spin a data disc MUCH faster if you want to get good transfer rates, remember the Loading... messages youd get from those old games? (or maybe you are too young to know SegaCD? I was one of the few who bought one...).

its why your laptop cd drive drains a huge Li ion battery reading a data disc versus your cd player.

The disk holds 1.8GB. It'll be a long ass time before that much data can be cheaply held on a memory card.

No way would I buy one(psp). I have had nothing but trouble from any Sony product I have bought in the last 18 years. The memory stick is reminds me of beta max in the early 80's.
Twit!

Betamax was superior to VHS from start to finish. Same with MS VS CF, performance-wise. None of my Sony equipment will die! I can't upgrade till the old stuff dies first. My Sony electronic stuff is all old technology because it won't give up the ghost! Still have a functioning SL-HF900 from 1986!

Nice dude on your betamax video 😀

Yeah but your laptop cd drive is also hooked up to a huge lcd (compared to the PSP). Also it isn't usually spinning all the time either unless your playing a music cd or dvd.
