Hello,

I was transfering some files to my psp when all of a sudden I got this message:

"A USB device has malfunctioned and exceeded the power limits of its hub port. You should disconnect the device"

I'd try different ports on the comp, but the psp doesn't recognize the USB cable. I keep getting the same power surge error. :( Anyone has any idea on how to fix this?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

1. Use a USB port that's directly on the motherboard. Usually ones on the backplane work fine. USB hubs on monitors don't usually supply enough power and give you the power surge error.

2. Restart the computer and/or PSP.

I'd followed your suggestion and even try connection it on another computer but with the same result. I guess the usb port on the psp is damamged, my other devices works perfectly fine (MP3, printer, external hd, etc).

It may just be the cable. I had a crappy cable that gave me problems, tried another and it fixed them.

Haven't thought about that cause it was working fine the day before, thanks. I've the Rocketfish power and data cable. Any brand you'd recomment?

At least it's still under warranty, right? PSP Slim hasn't been out for a year yet, and Sony's website says it has a 1 year warranty.

I'm so relief, it's working perfectly :) . I'd borrow a cable from a colleague of mine and tested it at work just a couple of minutes ago.

Guess I'll stay away from those data and power usb cable next time. Funny thing is I hardly use it that much, maybe once or twice every month; and I purchased the psp along with the cable around March 2008.

Anyway, thanks again everyone for your help.
