PSP/EB Games Problem

Okay, so here?s the deal. I live in NYC. I had a friend pick me up a PSP in Jersey this past Friday as he ?knows? a guy that works at the EB Games there. I get it and notice immediately there are two scratches on it ? they appear to be on the inside of the screen although I can?t tell for sure. Also, there are a couple dead pixels. There are also little bumps on the surface near the buttons on the right (not on the screen). Finally, the UMD motor seems to make a lot of noise ? since I don?t have another PSP to compare it to, I don?t know if this is typical, and the load times do seem really long.

So I want to exchange it for another one and have been contacting EB Games to see what I can do. I called two and they said since the unit has dead pixels I can?t take it back to them. I tried explaining that?s not the only problem, there are actually others, but they don?t seem to understand. I called another EB Games and the guy there said I can take it back and re-purchase it with the extended warranty. This may be a viable option although I didn?t really want to spend anymore money.

Do you guys have any suggestions? Anyone work at EB Games and can help me out? I feel like I sorta got a lemon unit. I love the PSP, but mine is just pretty messed up and I feel like it?s sorta BS that I can?t just take it to any EB and get a new one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sell it on ebay?

retailers are surely balking at all the returns of the PSP's due to them not making any money when people return stuff

I thought about selling it on Ebay, but then I've got that same problem of spending more on the unit. I don't think I'm going to get full price for it on Ebay, although I'll check the listings right now. If I'm going to lose money on it, I might just go for that extended warranty through that one EB Games, assuming that can actually be done.

Yeah, that it true. I mean, does anyone have a PSP with the UMD motor making a lot of noise? I just don't think that's supposed to happen.

1) Get your friend's "connection" to exchange it for you.
2) Bring it in to an EB and *show* them the problems, rather than trying to explain them over the phone.

If you have a receipt, go the store and they'll exchange it (if they have them). If not, don't leave until they do. Get louder and louder until your problem is taken care of. You have a defective unit and the store is refusing to swap it for a working unit. Make sure everyone that goes in there while you're there knows it. Only leave if escorted out by police.

Does this actually work? I just feel like if the person there says, "no," what are my options after that? These EB Games employees seems to have a chip on their shoulder so I don't want to get on their bad side.

^ What royaldank said.... I would try to talk to the connection guy at EB Games and see what they can do first before I did anything else. Heard of a lot of PSP problems already, but from the people I know with working units, it's supposed to be pretty sweet! Hope everything works out for you.

doesn't it say on the receipt or online what their in-store exchange and return policies are?

if they don't have any in stock anyway though, there's nothing to exchange with.

i also agree you should leverage your EB connection guy.

I would love to get in touch with this guy, and there is a problem with that as well. I tried calling this EB Games in Jersey and asked if the guy was there. This other guys says no, and that he can't tell me when he's coming in because it's illegal. When I say, "Illegal?" He says, "Yeah, how do I know you don't wanna kill him?!?" I had no response to that. He then said, "You just have to keep trying." I was simly in disbelief....

Oh, and the other issue is that this is a buddy's connection. I don't even know the guy nor do I know how well my buddy knows him. Argh!

why didn't you pick up the PSP in ny?
it's not like they're out of stock or anything.

The ones I called said they were. Also, the tax is lower in NJ and since my friend was picking his up anyway...(I didn't plan on having to return it).

They have an obligation to exchange it. Especially if its within 30 days. EBGames.com return policy states that if it is over 30 days, then the Manufacturers policy kicks in at that time and EBGames will not take back the unit. They aren't obligated to refund your money, but to exchange your defective merchandise since you have already opened it. If it was still packed and unopened then they could issue a refund.

I wish I could do that, believe me I do. Unfortunately they match serial numbers now with gaming units on the receipt. They've actually been doing that for a while now. Back in the day that was the way to do though.
