psn network down?

My PS3 is one of the supposed to be affected versions BUT my ps3 is working fine. I can sign into PSN, and the date is displayed properly. Guess I got lucky. I haven't tried any games yet... Because I have no games right now, but I should get Star Ocean today or tomorrow to try that but by then I'm sure they will have resolved the problem.

Just for some info, I never turn off my PS3, so maybe it is working because I left it on during the time change?

Turn it off then on again...see what happens then report back.

Not all Fats are messed up if that is what you are basing it on.

First I signed out of PSN, and tried to sign back in -- it wouldn't let me sign in. Then I turned it off and turned it on, and the date reset to 12/31 the theme was set to default and again it wouldn't let me sign in.

Guess I didn't get lucky... 🙁
 
The statement for those that can't access it at work:

As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.
We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.
Errors include:
* The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
* When the user tries to sign-in to the PlayStation Network, the following message appears on the screen; "An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)".
* When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; "Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game."
* When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the Internet, the following message appears on the screen; "The current date and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)"
* Users are not able to playback certain rental video downloaded from the PlayStation Store before the expiration date.
We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.
As mentioned above, Please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Update within 24 hours? Good. But how do they expect us to get the update on the PS3 if I can't sign it into PSN?

I'm going to have to look around to see if I still have a USB memory stick.

It's probably just going to be trophies that weren't yet synced with the Sony servers.

OMG. That guy is an embarrassment to himself and gamers in general. He definitely shouldn't be putting himself on camera. What's he saying anyway? I don't have audio here at work.

Apparently, the reason why the PS3's can't connect to PSN is because PSN is synced to the right time, and when the PS3 tries to connect with an obviously wrong time, PSN rejects those signals on grounds they may be false connections.

Sony will probably temporarily lower PSN connection restrictions or something to that effect
 
LOL, I was wondering what the hell was going on with my PS3 🙂. I was all set to play some Heavy Rain this weekend too.

It's OK though, I had some Biotic Neural Itching, so I played some more Mass Effect 2.

Hopefully this is fixed by next weekend.

What I don't understand is why the problem would only be affecting the fat PS3's.

First off, I can't imagine that Sony would have changed something as basic as the code for the internal clock when they released the slim.

Second, even if they did make a change to the clock software, the update surely would have been added into all the firmware updates as Sony hasn't been releasing a separate firmware for the fat/slim models.

The update server operates independently of the PSN server; you can update your system without ever logging into PSN. Users experiencing the problem can still browse the internet, so the issue isn't stopping all network traffic, it's just denying a connection to PSN, but since that doesn't affect the update servers, it won't be a problem if a firmware fix is released.

I may be wrong but the slim's chips are not exactly the same as the fat's, hence less power usage. The ps2 chip is also in some of the fats. Maybe the one's with the ps2 chip need to use some different clock code to run. Just my 2 cents.

That's the theory because some of the newer fats don't have the problem either.
