I never said you were an idiot for not being able to afford a car, just for riding a motorcycle. One does not justify the other. It is only a matter of time before you DO have an accident, and at most normal driving speeds, helmets are worthless. Might keep you noggin from cracking open, but the extra weight will just help snap your neck, not to mention helmets + pavement at 30+ MPH to 0 MPH in 0 seconds = crushed helmet and whatever is inside, and even if it doesn't crack along with your head, your brain will slam the inside of your skull hard enough to cause instant death. How often do you ride under 30 MPH? I'd rather drive an unadulterated 1977 Ford Pinto than any motorcycle.

Thank you for proving that you're a clueless moron. Nothing in your post has any basis in fact whatsoever.

Riding a motorcycle is idiotic period.

Wow.

How is driving a motorcycle idiotic?

You say it yourself. One does not justify the other. Just because you ride a motorcycle does not mean that you will ever get into an accident.

92% of motorcycle riders involved in accident's were either self taught or "trained" by family or friends.
Hurt Report Findings

When you look at some of the facts there are some very obvious risk factors that identify the types of riders that get involved in accidents. This obviously will not prevent you from getting into an accident.

6. In multiple vehicle accidents, the driver of the other vehicle violated the motorcycle right-ofway and caused the accident in two-thirds of those accidents.

24. The motorcycle riders involved in accidents are essentially without training; 92% were self-taught or learned from family or friends. Motorcycle rider training experience reduces accident involvement and is related to reduced injuries in the event of accidents.

27. Almost half of the fatal accidents show alcohol involvement.

35. Motorcycle riders in these accidents were significantly without motorcycle license, without any license, or with license revoked.

43. Seventy-three percent of the accident- involved motorcycle riders used no eye protection, and it is likely that the wind on the unprotected eyes contributed in impairment of vision which delayed hazard detection.

55. Less than 10% of the motorcycle riders involved in these accidents had insurance of any kind to provide medical care or replace property.

We protect all lives, stupid ones too. Would you like to take an IQ test before being admitted to the hospital next time you're sick or injured?

who is 'we'?

and yeah, if we can figure out a proper way to do that. if people don't care for their health and safety, why should the rest of pay for their stupidity?

So, what I want to know is WHY do some motorcycle rider choose not to wear helments?

Because they're stupid and they were given the choice. Ask any motorcyclist who has been in an accident if they planned on getting in that accident before hand. I'd bet you a million dollars none of them had planned on going down that day. That is the nature of accidents, you can't predict when they're going to happen so you kind of need to dress for the crash, not for the weather or the ima badass biker fashionry.

Same thing goes for wearing seatbelts in cars. Both should be mandatory.

Well thats sort of why people wear helmets. On another note. When you fall on pavement where you have unprotected skin you get a thing called road rash and they have to scrape the rocks out of your skin without pain medication so you don't go into shock.
Lovely right?

Yeah, I hope to never have to experience that myself.

Because it's their life and they ought to be able to do whatever the fuck they want with it. Why do some people chose to smoke cigarettes? Why do some people drink alcohol even though there's a clear link between alcohol and cancer/heart disease? Why do some people like to jump off cliffs with a parachute attached to them?

For the record, I agree that it's beyond stupid to ride without a helmet.

But people who do those things and gt hurt then become a burden on our hospitals, insurance companies and generally our society.

So their stupid decision affects more than themselves.

Since we do not want to throw people out into the streets if they get a head injury, the best we can do is to try to preven the injury.
