Submerged in circulating water they can be thawed in 6-8 hours depending on size...but fresh is the way to go.

Mine finished up last night I think. Will be putting it in the brine tomorrow morning followed by the smoker the next day.

Fridge? Fuck, that wastes so much space. Mine's out in the garage right now. If I get really worried about temps I might put it into a cooler with a bit of ice.

Having a turkey unthawed is a perfect excuse for serving something better than turkey. So as my PSA to you all I suggest leaving your turkey in the freezer.

This makes my microbiology senses cringe. D:

If my garage never gets above 40* then my turkey is never in "the zone".

During the late fall and winter I have a virtually endless supply of ice-cold soda and beer from the garage.

Yup. Last year I put the turkey in a cooler with some ice and put that in the garage. When I went back a few days later to pull it out and brine it the ice hadn't melted at all.

Got two birds, a 22 pound tom and 14 pound hen. 59 cents a pound! The 22 pounder we put in the fridge on Friday as it will take 5-6 days to thaw.

So if your turkey isn't thawing by now it may be too late. Think about it, a frozen 5 pound chicken takes at least a day to thaw.

My turkey is still walking around. It'll be killed tomorrow. And, bragging about 59 cents a pound meat would be like bragging that your tacos cost 29 cents each. Those turkeys are fed the crappiest possible diet to get them to market weight as cheaply as possible. The diet of your food makes a big difference in the flavor.

edit: and "one day for every 4 pounds" - that's assuming a certain temperature in my fridge, isn't it? I keep the fridge cold enough that if I put a pitcher of water in it, after about 2 days, I'll start seeing a little ice building up on the surface. Frozen food does not thaw in my fridge.

Eat at someone else's place. No need to worry about the turkey.

Isin't it kinda early? Christmas is in like a month from now. A day in advance max, I say. then again I've never cooked one before, so what do I know. I always eat somewhere else.

I was wondering that but I didn't want to be the one to say anything.
