Who knew? :awe:

Seriously though. What possesses someone to wake up one morning, go to work and say, "Gee, I'd really like to get my car detailed today... but I'm stuck at work. I wonder if there's anyone in town that can bring the 'detailing shop' to me?"

And better yet, the fact that there is actually someone who came up with the business idea to make the auto detailing business "portable" (which really isn't a huge stretch of the imagination when you think about it) is just impressive.

And there is. I see some of the most interesting things in the parking lot here at work. 'Merica. Fuck yea!

For the record... it was a PRIUS getting detailed - NOT the Porsche, C6, several BMWs, or Mustangs in the parking lot.

Every year my neighbors would have someone come and detail their cars in their driveway.

If you're going on a business trip, drop your car off at one of the off site parking spots, and you can have them take it for an oil change, too!

I used to get my car washed and detailed by a group of guys who would come to my office every week. It was a mobile group. Thought it was great until they cracked my windshield and denied it.

I love my car so that's the sort of thing I'd like to do myself. I don't go to auto car washes either.

Near me there's a parking garage that has a Detail shop in it.

The parking garage I used to park in for work had a shop in the basement.

Drop off your keys in the morning, and when you leave for the day your car is clean.

I used them once when I was getting ready to sell my car. They did a better job than I would have done. :) I'd like to think I made my money back on the sale.

There used to be auto detailing guys at our corporate campus, I don't think there are anymore though. Also, there are auto glass business that will drive out to your office and replace your windshield or window.

Our campus also has a hair salon which I use, shoe shine guys that come around, and a laundromat where I get my clothes repaired. It's great to be able to get all this stuff done so conveniently.

They've had that here for years, on the third level of the parking lot You can get anything from a plain wash, to a full detailing. Maybe even an HJ, but I've never asked. :hmm:

I've always wanted to get my Jeep detailed to see how many people would quit. I've had it 13 years, and it's been washed exactly zero times. There's mouse nests under the seats, and a good layer of dirt, wood chips, and miscellaneous detritus from 13 years of use :^D

Good business model... most people are stuck at work all day and have limited time for their lunch break (which they prefer to use for eating lunch).

Yeah we have that "Service" come by our work weekly.. Too rich for my blood, would rather do myself and spend that extra $$ elsewhere.

You can also get your windshields replaced while you're at work.

I'm waiting to stumble across an Oil-Change-Mobile.

Seriously. I don't understand the business model of "we're only open during the hours in which you're busy at work." :hmm:

Yea you can get dents removed and cracks in your windshield repaired at work as well. I had a window crack service come out and repair mine at work once, worked great.

Yeah that always pisses me off that everything closes at 5. I'm so glad I work shifts now, I can actually get stuff done. Before it used to be a huge ordeal to do something like get car repairs or get an oil change.

It sort of exists. Just difficult, 'cause oil changes have shit for profit and you can't crank them out without a pit or at least a drive-on lift. Also, you gotta carry a drum of bulk oil and a drum of waste oil around. And you can't spill shit.

I've seen it done in an enclosed trailer for fleet service.

As far as mobile detailers, they've been around here for a while, and I always see them in parking lots. Whereas I will do some 'mobile mechanic' work, but generally only on someone's own premises. I've done stuff at employers before, but only if it's a bit secluded (e.g. no open lots for office buildings) and I'm just popping the hood. Often just to avoid a tow bill.

Common here too. You can get tires rotated, oil changes and any other typical minor service done as well.

We've had mobile auto detailing here for at least 20 years, and this is a small town. There are several mobile pet groomers as well, boss has his mutt done every two weeks.

People are lazy.
