PSA When Interviewing....

Dr. Detroit

Diamond Member
I interviewed 8 people yesterday at a UC school for an internship and this one guy's dress was absolutely pathetic.

Grey pinstriped suit 2 sizes too big with the Van Heusen label still sewn on coat sleeve
White shirt with pink pin-stripes and the collar unbuttoned
Red tie

Absolutely the worst dressed candidate I've ever seen

But he may be the most brilliant person you could hire. Don't look at his clothes. but also look beyond the person into their mind and their abilities.

Does this mean I don't get the job?

$10 says he was the smartest guy you interviewed all day.

Guy was a blithering idiot. As soon as the difficult questions started getting asked he turned into a stuttering idiot who could not fomulate a coherent thought.

Trust me I do not let their dress impact my judgement.

So..essentially your PSA is worthless, since aparently appearances don't matter.

Quick question for interviewers. What times are better: earlier times or later times? Most have told me that early interviews are better because by the end of the day they're so tired of interviewing people that they usually don't pay much attention.

Middle times are the best.

NM, just look into other things the next time you belittle someone.

so a bunch of you go into interviews looking like slackers and hope your skills get you through?

I did. Went to a sales job wearing a t-shirt and jean shorts. Both without holes or anything that stupid, but still a t-shirt ans jean shorts where everyone working there was in a suit & tie. I was offered the job. *shrug*

And you expect anything less from a Berkeley student?

Yup, because he was leaving the tag on so he could return it after the interview. That guy is a moneymaker!!!

forming preconceived notions of people based on how they dress FTL !!!

How hard is it to dress appropriately? 😕 The fact that the guy didn't put the effort into looking half-decent for his interview says something about him. Would you hire a guy who came into an interview wearing baggy jeans hanging off his butt and a t-shirt that's 4 sizes too big?
