PSA: When hanging out with your ex, let others know you're not a couple!

I was at a friend's going away party the other night and an attractive, nice, and friendly young lady came in with a handsome fellow and started chatting with me. We ended up daring each other to do karaoke pieces and had a nice time. I assumed that the guy she came in with was her boyfriend so I distanced myself politely as I didn't want to step on anyone's toe. Then, after they leave, I tell the mutual friend that I thought she was nice and wondered if she was trying to make her boyfriend jealous by being flirty with me - "oh, she probably was flirting - they're not dating anymore - they're just good friends!" argh!

Is there anything we don't know about your dealings with women and you regularly failing?

Nah, then he would have to suffer the humiliation of turning himself down.

You will constantly fail at relationships if you worry about stepping on toes.

Someone can easily come with one person and leave with another. Boo hoo for them.

Women have freedom of choice with who they stay with.

Men have freedom of choice for calling you out on hitting on their girlfriend. If the girl isn't a skank it is unwelcome. While the OP was being too cautious, I don't hit on a girl if she is in a relationship. For one thing I wouldn't want a girl who leaves somebody else for me because then the same will happen to me later, for another I don't want to be a jackass.

The hand doesn't count ;)

hah - if we counted the hand well.. It would be a lot longer than 6 years! Me and my hand have a relationship that will last a lifetime!

did you even read the thread topic? Maybe you need to lighten up and, you know, get a life before getting so angry about this..

I suck at meeting girls.. You, my friend, suck at life if you get this upset about something so trivial...

Can we at least give freedomsbeat212 a custom title? Like "If you're reading this, you're in YAGT" or "YAGTville: population, me", or "Hey look, YAGT" or "YAGT or bust" or "You had me at 'YAGT'"

i hope you learned from this. I mean really, how hard would it haven't been to say something like, "oh hey, I think your boyfriend is getting jealous." or "so how long have you been with xxx?"

Nope. He is actually very good at finding attractive and nice women.
It's the 'keeping them' part that is the issue here.

freedomsbeat - you sound like a pretty nice guy. You know, the guy everyone introduces to their friends as, "Hey, meet this guy. He's really nice and cool."

Start being a little pro-active man. It's almost as if you enjoy this tremendous ill-luck you have with women.

WTF?

Yeah some dude can ask me 'Why am I hitting on her, she's taken'. I just smirk.

You saying skank means I believe this is part of your regular experience out there.

If you bring enough to the table it's not going to happen to you...except on the rarest of occasions and then WHO CARES! you just move on.
