back when I was in law school and interviewing at about 25 firms, I kept getting asked one form or another of the same question "why did you leave FL to come to DC?"

So, in about the 23rd interview or so, the lady I'm interviewing with asked me "So, what brought you to DC?" to which I promptly replied "An airplane."

I was very impressed with myself, though it was the first rejection letter from all the firms I interviewed at.

HR: What's one of your weaknesses?
Me: Depends
HR: On what?
Me: On whether you want the truth or you want me to give a weakness that's actually not a weakness because I could turn it into a strength.
HR: How about both?
Me: Which one do you want first?
HR: Lets start with the truth
Me: The truth is I don't have any weaknesses
HR: Ok then what's the other one
Me: The other what?
HR: The weakness that you can turn into strength
Me: Now how can I answer such a question if I've already told you the truth?
HR: ... ok we'll be in touch
Me: Suhaweeeetttt!!

This thread gets my personal "Best thread of the week award" Congratulations to all the posters. You have, unfortunately, won nothing but my laughter and gratitude.

My answer: Hyperalloy combat chassis.

I have never been a fan of questions such as this. HR reads the question from a book and really no correct answerer (well there is but its a lie).

lol.....if the interviewer is a star wars fan and you can pull that off with a straight face, you may just score some extra points.

That's a ridiculous questions, and anyone who asks it deserves to be smacked.

More like, I smack stupid HR people who don't ask pertinent questions. I don't like to lump stupid questions with HR questions. Good HR people don't ask questions like that.

It is really a really poor way to try to find out something about you that, by law, they cannot ask you about.

Um, no. Since you can't use that information in decision (they would have a claim even if they offered the information without directly being asked), or continue down that line of thought in discussion, it would be pointless (and dangerous) to try and elicit illegal information through that question.

It's a textbook question that provides little to no beneficial information. That's it.
