Well the best US NBA players aren't represented.

Even if only Shaq was to play, US would be dominant.

I don't think with Shaq we would be dominant. He's old & slow now, and the way he plays half of what Shaq gets away with in the NBA would be called fouls in the international game.

These international teams just throw up three's and it's going in, a lot of banks.

Carter is mediocre at best.

all he had going for him was his monsterous dunks.

Wow this is wrong. Have you seen the 2000 Olympics? Have you even seen last years qualifiers? Carter led the 2000 team (Garnett, Kidd, etc.) in scoring, coming up with huge plays to keep them undefeated (especially against Argentina IIRC).

Even last year, Carter was a throw in at the last second, and he then too led the team in scoring IIRC. Carter thrives in the international game rules.

Your quote should be changed to:

ARGGHHHH!!! those muthab|tches - THEY SUCK!!! :|

they lost to PR...what a disgrace! if they don't get gold, they better not come back!! :|😛

You could blame the poor outside shooting but the plan seems to be go inside and get put ins. Problem is, they play zone and will just pack the paint. Blame the coaching for not reading the rulebook for international play.

Problem is, poor outside and mid range shooting allows teams to be able to pack the paint and prevent the US team from slashing inside.

I hope you didn't think the NBA is full of talent. Just full of uber tall mamas boys. Real players, who actually work for a living can be found in other countries.

Like who?

The NBA has the best players in the world, there is only a small handful of great players who don't play in it.

Players like Bodiroga, etc. who choose to play in europe (and even he was drafted by the NBA at one point).

The US team is just a handful of great players. Not a great team. Most of these players need the ball in their hands and supporting role players to be effective. Not everyone can be a star on a team. Things they are missing: Pure shooter (s) ie Allen, even Hoiberg. Pass first point guard, someone like Kidd. Experience. this is everyones first Olympics. They haven't played with each other long, and a lot of them are young players with a really low b-ball IQ.

Good. Maybe I'll find the international games entertaining instead of the self felating dunk fests that are suppose to be a sport here in the USA.

Anyway, it doesn't matter. You can't b|tch about the rules that ARE the rules. Thats like showing up for a soccer game with a bunch of badmitton players and then crying when you get your ass handed to you in soccer.

Well, for starters, they need to start practicing and quit smoking crack. How the fvck can a team full of NBA players miss 10 3-pointers in a row?

Did you watch the second USA vs. Turkey game? Turkish player Ibrahim something made 7 3-pointers in a row.

I seriously hate this crap. Maybe these muthafuckas need to practice their shooting rather than dunking. Anyone over 6'5" can dunk, those jumpshots require skill.

USA should have won but fvck knows what went wrong.

Missed too many shots and too many fouls.

Don't they UNDERSTAND THE NEW RULES?!

Koing

i agree. hopefully teams will get it through there heads to practise more fundementals, and get away from and1 style basketball.

Fundamentals > Athleticism. Original Dream Team had both, this team only has the latter. Though the 2 time MVP Tim Duncan is known as Mr. Fundamental.

I really think they shoulda just taken the pistons to athens with a few additions for those international players who went to their old teams..... the team now simply doesnt have chemistry which would be solved by taking the pistons (who already have chemistry).

We don't have a shooting guard. Which means the other teams have figured out that they can just pack into the lane to smother Duncan and allow everyone else to shoot outside bricks. Simple as that.

The selection commitee blows. You don't just pick the next best "star", you have to assemble a team that has all of the pieces, which this team is obviously lacking a couple. It's all about money, and by sending all of the stars you get good publicity for the NBA. Yay. :disgust:

You sir, have spoken the truth. It seems like the only thing those guys can really do is dunk, dunk, dunk. What a bunch of idiots.

This is the correct answer. Everyone else has gotten part of it right, but this is the full monty here.
Evidently, the selection commitee thinks all they have to do is send over some famous, 2nd rate players and everyone will roll over and play dead from having to face them.
Iverson and Duncan are the only real, bona fide superstars, and I'd question whether Iverson even belongs in that class.

We either need to send the best we have, or just send the NCAA champions to play. I really think a team like Duke or UConn would do better because they would be just that, a TEAM. One that has played together a long time, like the international teams have.

Why did they lose to Puerto Rico, a team they recently spanked by 25 pts? Shooting, plain and simple.
We only scored 27 points in the first half, and we were like 1-13 or someting ridiculous like that from the arc.
Sure, all the other teams will have to do is pack the lane around Duncan, because there's no reason for them to guard us at the arc. They need to get rid of 2 of our guards, and call up someone like Reggie Miller and Robery Horry or the like and fly them over there, FAST. Someone who can shoot the 3.
Unless we consistently knock down the outside shot, our only hope to win will be to play some intense defense, making the other teams shoot badly, too.
