When there are TWO right turn lanes, the person in the rightmost turn lane MUST turn into the lane furthest to the right. The person in the leftmost right turn lane should turn into the lane second from the right. However, this person usually can go in any lane left of that if there is no traffic in that lane.

When there are TWO left turn lanes, the person in the rightmost turn lane MUST turn into the lane second from the left. This person can usually go more right as traffic permits. The person in the leftmost left turn lane MUST turn into the lane farthest left.

I am TIRED of people not comprehending that they can't just pick a lane to turn into!

What about people in the left turning lane who really want to turn right? They can just go wherever, correct?

No no, those rules only apply to certain people, notably NONE of them live in Florida.

Apparently none in MI either.

Another lesson:

There is a reason that in MI there is a sign at every "Michigan left" that says LEFT LANE MUST TURN LEFT.

But if you turn left 3 times you basically have just turned right, no?

I hate "Michigan lefts". Who's brilliant idea was it to make people turn right, then bust a U-turn? I hated it when I lived there and it drives me up the wall when I visit family.

I don't necessarily agree with you on this, only because some streets will paint dividing lines to show which turn lanes can go where.

Sometimes when you have two left turn lanes turning into a 3 lane road, the innermost left turn lane will be allowed two lanes while the outer left turn lane will only have the widest left turn lane. And reverse is true too, sometimes the innermost left will only get one lane to turn while the outer one will get two lanes. Same w/ two right turn lanes.

Correct. The lines tell you where to go.

So, what you're saying is if I'm in the left lane and want to turn right, just turn on my blinker, wait 0.5 seconds, and begin my turn without looking? What if I'm in the right land and want to turn left? Do the same rules apply?

What's a MI left? In NJ they make you go right if you want to make a left. Is this the same thing?

Uh...apparently you didn't read. I said in situations where there are TWO right turn lanes or TWO left turn lanes. I never said you can turn right out of the left lane if both go straight. Reading comprehension FTW.

And I agree, however, very few turns have these markings(at least in my experience). If they don't, the rules I have posted are what apply.

It actually has its advantages. You would realize it if you did it everyday.

I made a thread about this very topic a while back. I live in Tampa, FL. I get run off the fucking street every time I try and turn left from E. Fowler Ave. onto N 56th St.

Ah I see, we call it a jug handle because its shape vaguely resembles the handle of a jug.
