If you're going to be an asshole and tailgate, verbally assault, and then illegally merge into other drivers on the road, I recommend you not to do so in your company vehicle that has the company's name and phone number splashed all over it, especially in the day and age of cell phones.

Your boss is waiting for you to get back....

Add "Not realize what engine braking is" to that list. If I get one more pickup-truck driving assbag riding up my spoiler, because they didn't realize that I can slow down without the brake lights coming on, I swear I'm just going to get a beater and stand on the brakes. :p

I hate how they park on the street in front of our parking stalls, so that you can't pull into your parking stall because it's blocked by some FedEx/UPS/DHL truck...unless it's delivering something for me, of course...

In this case the asshat just didn't understand that when you come up to a redlight, you must slow and then stop. Instead he was planning to slow by using my bumper? Dunno. Either way, he damn sure wasn't far enough back to see my tires, which last I heard is the law...

What if his boss used to drive a delivery van and doesn't care for your complaint?

Yeah, stupid non-psychic assholes  It's irresponsible to use exclusively engine brakes when someone is behind you. It's akin to not indicating.

/rant at one dump truck driver

Try not to steer around someone at speed in a gas station lot with just one hand on the wheel. I have a family moron, try controlling your 2 ton vehicle with some form of responsibility.

a dump truck weighs a hell of a lot more than 2 tons, BTW. Even better...

You guys can rant all you want, but the sheer volume of 4-wheelers (that's you guys in your little cars) who cut off trucks to make an exit dwarfs your trucker tailgated me rant. In these cases, not only can you easily cause a crash, but you're also putting someone's livelihood at risk. Some company's fire a driver after a rear ender. That doesn't just go off your record overnight.

improper lane changes
drifting into my lane
getting over into my lane at the last second and slamming on the brakes (it takes a solid 700-1000 ft. to stop a truck from 55 mph)
not paying attention when it's time to merge

Of course trucks do this too, but I'm talking about the hundreds of YOU who do it everyday without any regard for the trucks. Remember, If you use it, wear it or eat it, a truck moved it.

Actually I'm pretty aware of trucks and their safety issues on the road (this guy was in a full-size van BTW). I don't tailgate large trucks or merge in front of them unless I'm going to continue accelerating. About 95% of the time, I'm respectful to those who are respectful to me.

I drive a Ford E250 company vehicle (no company logo, just plain white) and even I get tailgated by these vans/trucks.
I don't see why they do it. It seems like it takes FOREVER for my van to stop at stop lights/signs. I can't imaging riding on someone's bumper like these other drivers do.

I think my van weighs around 6,000-6,500 lbs (guessing) and I don't think these morons in cavaliers/civics/sunfires realize that when they cut me off, ride my butt, etc , I can't stop and if I hit them, I will suffer much less than them. (Loaded van plus heavy duty suspension, and a bit higher than most other vans....)

But it pisses me off because even if it isn't my fault, my company will be pissed at me if anything happens to the van, so I have to be even extra careful. I also don't want to lose my privileges to drive the van...

New York City I have always avoided at normal times, so I have no comment. I liked to leave Columbia, NJ at 2:00 am to get to LI for a 7 am appointment. So I got there at 5, but I avoided traffic. Getting up at 1:00 was never fun, for sure... Especially when my family was 3 hours behind. I'm getting up as they are going to bed...

No matter what VDOT does, it seems like the roads here just weren't meant to handle this much traffic... I don't know if they will ever be able to fix it.

I had to get up and leave the house at 2:00 am to be at work by 4:30 for about 8 months. Talk about hell... didn't matter what time i went to bed, I was always tired.

It's not that the roads weren't meant to handle the traffic, it's that the roads have not been expanded to handle the increased traffic that goes along with growth and development. Instead local politicians play the game of blaming the citizens for driving and Richmond for not funding highway construction when the truth is that little highway contruction can actually be accomplished because of small but vocal groups of NIMBY's and enviro's that scream everytime any proposal to widen or build anything is put forth.

No better example exists than I-66 aka the upside down interstate. It is the sole limited access highway going into DC from the western suburbs and from the beltway into the city it is 2 lanes in each direction. From the beltway west to Fairfax City it is 3 lanes in each direction except during rush hours when the shoulder magically becomes a lane. From Fairfax City to just west of Manassas it is 4 lanes in each direction until just west of Manassas it goes back from 4 to 2 lanes. Anyone with an ounce of logic can see the sheer stupidity of that design.

As a 4-wheeler I try to do my best to respect truckers. I can only imagine the number of pricks you guys have to deal with. I try to never cut off a semi and always use my turn signal around them. I also have a healthy respect for your maneuvering skills. While I was in Chicago I say a semi back into an alley perfectly on the first try and had 3.25" of clearance to the building wall on one side and 1.75" on the other. Amazing

Well put. I-66 is definitely screwed up. Luckily the furthest I drive east on 66 is to 7100/Fairfax county parkway. I normally work in Reston on the parkway/sunrise valley drive intersection, and in chantilly right on rt 28.

I don't see why they didn't extend 66 west at LEAST to gainesville where a lot of the traffic exits. Haymarket would be even better. But it REALLY needs to be widened between the beltway and fairfax.
I had to drive to Tysons Corner for a week for training, and it was a nightmare. I come from out past Front royal, so I have a pretty decent drive and the traffic never helps.

Yeah, some of those guys are nuts. I was a driver for a couple of years in both urban and suburban environments, and I've managed drivers too. It's tough when there's alot of traffic and you've got all this stuff to deliver and the same horrendous driving happens to you all the time, and your boss is calling you every ten minutes to find out how close you are to the customer because they keep calling him, but because you're in a truck that will demolish most vehicles and inhabitants in them (I'm talking a truck, not a panel van) you have a greater responsibility. This causes stress, and when you're joe super-trucker and have been driving for umpteen years, part of your enjoyment might be bullying the other drivers on the road--just like drivers in SUV's and pickups like to do to little cars and motorcycles. But, yeah, I agree with the tailgating bit--it's dangerous.

Crazy New York drivers FTL! :)

Out here on Long Island it's pretty bad. Loads of bad/crazy/inconsiderate/etc... drivers on the road.
(especially the LIE (Long Island Expressway)

And I've heard it gets worse as you get towards the city (i havn't driven there....yet)
