PSA: There is no point in creeping slowly into the intersection at a red light

Yes, good for you. You can see the opposing traffic slowing, so you know a green is coming your way soon. But can't you wait a couple seconds instead of edging your way out into the intersection, then pounding the gas? I assure you, the extra 5-10 ft you gain there will not make you arrive at your destination any sooner. The rules are very simple. When it's red, STOP. Just fucking stay stopped until the light turns green. THEN GO. The best is when these people creep out halfway into the intersection, then realize they forgot to account for a green arrow, and now they have to hit the brakes again, and perhaps even reverse it a bit to get out of the way of the the cars turning in front of them.

These people fucking piss me off! Especially when they start creeping into the intersection and then when the light turns green, they dont fucking go! Another thing that pisses me off is when people approach a line of cars stopped and a red light and stop 5+ feet behind the last car. Then while waiting in line they inch forward a little bit, then stop and then inch forward again...WTF ARE YOU DOING?!? Just fucking pull all the way forward when you approach the car in front of you!!! Dont stop 5+ feet away and slowly inch forward while waiting there! It cant be any simpler, pull all the way up to the limit line at the red light or up to the car infront of you, wait there and then when its time to go, GO, creeping forward just makes you look like a douche bag!

If they are the last car, which means you can't be behind them, why does that bother you even in the slightest?

Eventually someone is going to pull up behind them.

My problem is with people who approach a red light, whether they be the first car or somewhere in a line of cars, stop an excessive distance away from the limit line or the car in front of them and then inch forward. Why cant they just pull all the way forward on your first approach and then just sit there, do they really have that bad a case of ADD?

This.

Does the OP get easily distracted that someone else inching their way forward prevents them from driving?

If this REALLY is making you angry... i would suggest an Anger Management class.

Many intersections have weight sensors under the road so the lights know if someone is there or not. At less busy times of the day, this is to help the light make a decision for changing or not.
During busy times of the day most traffic lights are on a set timer and ignore the number of cars that may be piling up in a given section.

Sometimes even I forget this. When I was doing my 6 - 2 job, I usually had to head out of the house by 5:30. One time I pulled up for a left turn and sat behind a dude on a bike for about 5 minutes with no other traffic. Then I noticed he was motioning me to come forward. I was like "Why the hell would this guy want me to crawl up his ass?!?" Then I realized he was too light to trip the sensor. I rolled forward a couple feet, and sure enough the light turned green.

EDIT:
As for the issue in the OP, you are assuming they are paying attention to the traffic in the other direction slowing down. When in reality there are probably more concerned with setting the favorites on their XM radio.

Those people that pull up to a red light and keep rolling forward a half inch every couple seconds hoping to 'trip' something crack me up. You aren't fucking working magic with your tires, it's going to turn to green eventually even if you never move again just calm the fuck down. Sometimes I wonder if, when it does turn green, they say something like "I knew that one would do it!"

I think this is why most people inch up constantly while sitting at a red. I wonder if anybody still flashes their lights at the traffic lights, thinking that will make them turn? :)

This pisses me off too. I drive a manual transmission, and douches that play the perpetual creep game end up leaving too big of a gap between me and them. What's so hard about stopping the correct distance behind the car in front, and staying there?

Yeah, the problem is when they creep forward and don't pay attention for pedestrians legally crossing the street in the crosswalk. I've been tapped by the bumper of a creeping car as I was crossing the crosswalk with 10 seconds left to cross. Driver didn't even apologize, just glared at me as I completed my crossing of the street

Wahmbulance is on the way. It'll take a little longer than usual to get to you b/c I've instructed them to inch forwards at stop lights until they turn green instead of going through them like a regular wahmbulance. My bad.

Minor correction: It is an electro-magnetic sensor, not a weight sensor.

Iron wing is right.

They coil the wires under the car, and the car creates an emf which is detected by the circuit board and then the lights change... or somthing like that

The OP sounds like one of those guys who has the brake fully depressed, then takes five seconds to switch pedals after the light changes to green: one of those people that causes me to miss the rest of the lights further down the road because he doesn't understand that lights are timed for a given acceleration path which he completely screws up by dragging his knuckles all the way through the intersection rather than going when the light turns green.

He sounds like someone who knows how to operate a car to me.

I fucking hate people that take their sweet ass time to accelerate through the green light

You shouldn't be closer than 5' any time.

I believe they are magnetic, but otherwise I agree.

They're switching over to optical sensors. If you see a gun like camera on a cantilevered signal arm, that's for light control.

Don't get me started on the optical sensors. I have run a light close to me a few times because it can't seem to see my car at night.

I don't have a huge amount of experience with them, but so far they seem more reliable than the loop sensors.
