Amazon knows how hard it is to know what sales tax to charge for every municipality, county, and state in the country (and then to actually deal with sending them the money). They know this will make it harder for smaller competitors to do business. Why would they be against it?

2nd day prime has for me, mostly. I'm not spending an hour to drive to Target, shop, return drive unless I have to have it today or unless I want to see it 1st hand. And for $4, it's next day.

Interestingly, I shop books at B&M before I do A.

Ebay would impose a sales tax collection fee and a profit diminishment recovery fee to account for potentially lower bid prices.

Exactly - if Amazon has to pay, they think everybody should pay, because otherwise it's an uneven market.

Which is what the local B&M merchants have been saying for years.


There's a big thread in P&N about this too.

I don't like paying taxes any more than anyone else...but if we want the government services, (roads, bridges, police, fire, etc.) then we have to pay for it somehow.

If having to pay your state's sales tax is going to make or break the deal for you...you're obviously not one of the 1%...and shouldn't be spending your money on such trivialities anyway...:whiste:

As mentioned in the P&N thread, I'd lmao if somehow the states were able to use something like CISPA to get the records of a lot of online companies, then go after people who didn't pay the use taxes as well as tack on a bunch of penalties.

I have paid sales tax on Amazon for years. Even with tax and shipping their prices are cheaper. Add in Prime, and the shipping point is moot.
