PSA: Stop following so closely and check your mirrors carefully before changing lanes

I think a very good majority of accidents can be avoided if these 2 rules were obeyed.

Yet I still see cars barely leaving 2-3 car lengths in front of them when going 70 mph on the highway.

And I almost get hit daily by people who change lanes without carefully checking.
Check over your shoulders if you have to.

I wish they would strictly enforce these by putting more cops on the roads and adding stiff penalties.
On my daily commute of 70 miles round trip, there's always at least one accident that's backing up the traffic for miles.

:Q :|

I'm sorry if you enjoy getting rear-ended and/or sitting in hours of traffic, but I certainly don't.

I should've used commas instead.
I didn't mean they were equivalent.

that has nothing to do with it, peopel just randomally swerve into lanes without looking,

IMO peopel shoudl loose their right to drive for weaving in and out of traffic

When I'm lazy, I barely check my mirrors, I just look in my blind spot to see if there are any cars, and if not, I'm changin' lanes regardless. The only mirror I check is my rear view mirror to see if a car is speeding up and in case I change lanes, I'll get SMASHED from the back!

Cops on the highways suck. You have to keep up with traffic so you don't get hit by other cars! Yeah, you wanna know something? A women I knew got pulled over because she sped up when she was next to a truck. It was a truck for cyring out loud...

Ages 16-20 need to practice on closed roads, 4 hours a week.

I get this daily as well and it has nothign to do with blindspots....I drive a big ol pickup and its impossible for me NOT to be seen by people and yet i constantly i am getting cutoff and swerved in on.
Also being in a truck its a bit harder to stop, yet moronic kiddies make turns in front of me like i can stop on a dime, luckly i havent run any of them down yet.
Then finally my truck is high enough that if you tailgate me, and my tailgate aint down, I cant see you. So if i stop your running in the back of me you dumbasses, and unfortunately now this has happend not once but TWICE in ym brand new truck :|

i can honestly say that i do not obey all traffic laws:
1) i speed regularly (85-90mph on the highway)
2) i change lanes often to get into an open lane
3) i run yellow lights and often do not come to a complete stop at stop signs/red lights when making a right turn

HOWEVER, i have never caused a single accident or been involved in one because of the few simple rules i like to follow:
1) drive with common sense: don't speed if there are people in front of you or switch lanes into people
2) always be looking around your vehicle for cars that pose a threat to you or that you pose a threat to
3) use turn signals when changing lanes and making a turn
4) don't brake unnecessarily; leave a lot of room so that if the idiot in front of you slows down a bit you don't have to brake hard
-and finally-
5) the golden rule of driving: don't cut people off in situations that would piss you off if they did it to you

It is common sense that makes you a good driver, not following traffic laws.

Uh hum, so I suppose you can answer this one. Why in D-Ed do they stress the importance of traffic laws about speeding? "Never speed!" "NEVER!" And you're saying common sense? Is it common sense to break traffic laws on a highway, and potentially get pulled over by a cop? And then you'll say to him, 'at least I didn't get run over by that guy over there, but I'm willing to pay for this ticket.' "
Did I just answer my own question, or am I saying that you have to pay Uncle Sam for rules that are gone over in manuals, yet are broken everyday, and someone out there is still paying a price for laws that make little or no sense?
Or how about trying to understand why scientists are trying to convince teens to act like idiots?

what if those people are the ones hogging up the left lane and refusing to speed up so that traffic can pass?

If I were you, I'd run them over without remorse.

Damn, I need to be driving a big truck.

Actually, I purposely avoid other people's blindspots.
It's when I'm passing, or driving faster than them, on the lane to their left, they swerve into me.

I've almost hit dividers several times trying to avoid assholes like that :|

if you have your mirrors adjusted right, except in the situation of psteng19 and tractor trailers with blind spots directly behind and below them, it is IMPOSSIBLE to have blind sponts big enough for a car to hide in....
