That's what I thought. She was so nice that she probably did not think that her son needed the fear of God to be put in him. I would think that a jerk would give birth to a really self conscious person, who would be constantly embarrassed of his/her jerk of a parent and hence would resolve to become the exact opposite of a jerk.
