PSA: SATA HD warning. warning for the clumsy like me. PSA

they break really easily. don't put your sata HD near your PATA hd, sometimes i put a lot of pressure on the PATA hd's to get the cables in. in the process i bumped my SATA cable/connector.

pop, the little plastic piece broke off. 🙁

very very sad. i hardly used this drive too. 160 gb Hitachi. 🙁

i'm supergluing now to see if it will hold. if not i'll just tape it together.

thats always worried me quite a bit too.

the first thing i do before doing anything in my case is to remove SATA cable.

ya, next time i'll know too. an expensive lesson. 🙁

Western digital drives have an added protection thing for SATA drives. Maybe next time go with that?

Is it all WD Drives? so the raptor has it too? I heard something like that, but wasn't entirely sure. I have two raptors, and LOVE THEM! very well built 😀

since you have the two raptors, shouldn't you be telling us if they have them or not?

heh
i know all about that. i dropped mine taking it out of the box and it fell on the metal leg of my chair.

i was so worried. got a little dent on it. but it works and still does.

oh by the way, good luck, Platinum.

well

i superglued a cable too the HD. from now on, i can only use this HD with this cable.

when the little plastic piece broke off, all the copper lay in strips inside the protective box on the HD and the plastic strip stayed inside the cable. i put super glue on the cable and slipped it back into place making sure that the copper strips when in where they came out.

i'm gonna give it another hour or two, make sure superglue gets good and dry then i'll try it.

Uhh make sure all the connects dont have any glue on them.

As a list ditch effort i guess you could strip and cable and solder it on.

is superglue when dried, conductive?

I don't believe so. I often use it or nail polish to repair exposed traces...

ya, that's what i was thinking. that it wasn't conductive. now my only concern is, did the superglue get between the contact preventing good connection between HD and Cable, but that's better than a short.

the superglue thing didn't work. 🙁 i'm going to try and RMA it.

wonder what chance i have of rma'ing this thing.

uhh by putting superglue on it you probably ruined that chance.

i dont' know. i don't really see much residue of the glue on the HD, most of it seems to be on the cable.

if i had gotten a decent amount of glue on both the HD and the cable, it probably would have worked.

I doubt it even if he admitted to putting a little superglue on it. First thing they're gonna do in the RMA is pull the plastic piece and put a new one on. Superglue doesn't mess anything up.

right, it's not like i was trying to OC the HD or anything. i was just trying to save them a few bucks.
