I don't like signatures because I really don't want every single person I email to have my phone number.

If someone in my company wants it, they can easily look it up. Anyone outside my company can only have my number if I give it to them.

company policy is to have the "standard company signature" in our emails to show consistency when dealing with clients

We have a corporate standard as well. 21 lines long

I'm sure it won't be long before our department bows to bloated bureaucracy as well.

Yes, they won't let us (IT) add it as a footer, it has to be in the signature. Plus there is the nice little "Don't print me because that would waste paper" blurb in there.

No thanks. I don't really want you contacting me anyway. I just sent the email to leave a trail to make it look like I tried to contact you so I can say "Oh, I'm just waiting to hear back from Ken on that" when the boss man comes by.

so reply "sure" and see what he says back.

our work has a phone list of employees on the intranet, and i personally HATE sigs in emails, especially that kind.

i don't need 15 extra lines telling me your middle name and your mom's phone number, nor your job title, or where you work.

Especially in email chains...

I think it's incredibly unprofessional to put any personal touches in the signature

for example, poems and phrases

No. If it's necessary and useful, it can be done automatically without me having to putz around. Personalized signatures should be banned because of all the toolacious signatures people have. ENOUGH ALREADY. I don't need 15 colors for your email address and phone number. DIAF. And I will personally maim the next person whose email includes a 100kb privacy disclaimer.

Or crazy colors and shit like ~*~**~*~.

fucks sake.

I strip all that out but it's agonizing to see it on other peoples' screens.

And This

Obviously, I'm a champion of sigs, but not a champion of personality. Name, Phone Number, E-mail. That's it. Don't include your fax number, because who the freak uses faxes nowadays, anyway?! :)

You got a sec?

That's it. No phone call, no followup e-mail signature, nothing. Sure, I got a sec and I would LOVE to call you, but I don't know your fuggin' phone number! Now I have to spend unnecessary time looking it up.

How hard is it to be professional and include your contact information within every e-mail you send from work? Sheesh...

ok.. let me refresh business 101...

client = $ you want
you = kiss his ass, and spend the effort to look up his info via reverse email lookup
