Holy hell eBay's cancellation/refund policy is DUMB A GOD DAMN ROCKS.
I am looking for this very specific monitor right now that is 15 years old, and I found one on FB marketplace from someone in Cali. She offered to ship it to me but would rather do it through ebay for protection so I said cool lets do it. She put up an auction and it was $75 shipped. This was on Saturday morning and she made a label and everything.
Well on Monday around 5pm I noticed it hadn't moved so I shot her a message on FB marketplace. She told me she had canceled the item a few hours earlier because it was using so much shipping material and it was going to cost her more than expected. I said okay no problem an she offered to put it up again for a higher price so she made some more money off of it, and she also sent me a pic of how she packaged it up, and then I saw that I basically dodged a bullet because it never would have made it here, so I turned that offer down.
In the cancelation thing on ebay it said that the refund was pending and it would be resolved by the yesterday.
Well this morning I woke up saying that the order "couldn't be canceled because there was an issue with your refund."
So I got on the phone with them and this is where things get really fucking stupid...
They told me that my payment was on hold to the seller right now, and they couldn't refund me because the seller has $0 in their ebay account and did not have enough money to refund me.
Now the process is that I have to wait for the ship by date to pass, and file an item not received claim, and then the seller has 3 more days to refund me, and if they do not they are penalized.
And at THAT time ebay will refund me the money.
Like this makes absolutely NO SENSE AT ALL. Why not just release the money right now? Why penalize the seller for not having money in their ebay account when they could just release the money right now?
What a completely and utter shit show.
And no, the $75 isn't going to kill me, but it's just a complete waste of time for everyone involved and now the seller may be penalized for trying to help me out initially.
I had to use Venmo for this because my wife had our main credit card at the time and ebay doesn't even take Amex anymore.
Just complete trash.
