PSA: Never buy anything like this - EDITED

never buy anything that looks like this.

one of my worst purchases ever.

first thing to break was the base. it was still within warranty, so we had it replaced.

then the back broke. we repaired that by JB welding the weld point, and bolting a 2" steel strap across where the back rod is to reinforce it.

then the base broke again. so i removed the base, all the gliding and swiveling mechanism and sat it on a pair of 2x3's that i drilled little holes into for the base of the chair to rest on. (so that it wouldnt eat into the carpet, and bring the chair back up to the proper height.)

finally, today, the back (the JBwelded part) and the seat bottom (where the recliner mechanism is) both broke at the same time.

/sigh

now i gotta find a way to fix it.

EDIT: does anybody have any input on this as a replacement?

EDIT2: or this

How much do you weigh? I was thinking about getting the Relaxen one from wal mart sometime when they have the 200 dollar deal on it.

We got a cheap one from Wal-mart a few years back. It really is a piece of junk, but it's still holding together. Some screws fall off it every now and then but we haven't had anything break yet.

I have one that I've owned since 2001 and have had no problems... friends of mine bought one back in 03 and have had great luck, too. I guess it depends on the brand. My only complaint is that it isn't very comfortable.

We had few of those and they were nothing special but really had no complaints.

The only problem is their fabric is not the best to sit on since it's like plastic and we prefer regular chairs.

There is a weight limit so if you are a fatty that could be why it's breaking.

er... i mean the one that looks *exactly* like that.

i'm considering buying a wooden swivel/recliner from JC Pennys atm... it looks like it'd be better than this POS.

Silly question but why are you not looking at normal recliners?

For the price of these chairs you can get a decent one.

it's my desk chair. and i hate normal desk chairs. i could care less about the ottoman, but i want a swivel/recliner for sure.

Ahhh, that makes sense then,

wow, how ghetto am i.

until i figure out what i'm gonna get, i just duct-taped my chair back together.

we'll see how long it holds.

That chair is so ugly that one has to resort to profanity to truly capture how horrendously fucking hideous it actually is. As mentioned earlier, if you want a recliner, get a recliner. This strange bastard child of a recliner and a swivel chair represents everything that is wrong with the world.
