EA and Valve have issues relating to the distribution of DLC, and so EA gave Valve the finger and released ME3 as an Origin exclusive. I thought this was common knowledge for anyone even remotely interested in the game, but apparently not. So just to restate: ME3 will probably never be on Steam.
 
And this is exactly why I'm not getting the PC version. It's bad enough I have to put up with shit-EA just to enjoy Bioware on my console, but having to use EA's digital distribution system? LOL no thanks. I'm not THAT retarded.

I like how you push your analysis of "the issue" as fact for the entire post until the end where you state that it will "probably never be on Steam."

The issue that you're talking about did not stem from Mass Effect 3; it started with Crysis 2. Could it also cause ME3 to not be on Steam? Sure.

Also, Kingdoms of Amalur is published by EA, but is available on Steam, and the game has DLC. 😛

Yes, I say "probably" because at some point in the future EA and Valve could make up, but I wouldn't hold my breath. But oh snap! You caught me applying basic logic! Whatever am I to do?

I honestly do not see what the whole deal with you guys having issues with it not being steam is. People act as if steam is gods gift to gamers everywhere. When in reality, its not all that much different than origin, just managed by a different company.

Not to mention, if you don't want to buy it through Origin, fine, don't. Buy the actual BOXED RETAIL VERSION!

But good Amazon/GMG/GameFly/etc sales happen all the time - and given ME3 is an EA title, the key you get from any of the aforementioned services will plug right into Origin.

I have a bunch of games on Origin, I don't mind using it. It's just that good sales are few and far between, and only the worst games ever reach $4.99 that I can tell. Also, there's another thing that is hard to tell at this point: They aren't putting a lot of the older EA games on there. Maybe because they don't want to spend time making them work with Windows 7, I don't know. But in 5 years will you still be able to buy games that are on there now?

And the reason I care is because with Steam, I don't care about Steam per se, but their practice of having uber sales allows me to simply say screw it, I'll wait til it's $4.99 for Christmas sale.

I hadn't thought of that. It's a good point, though I find myself unable to remember to check ALL those places for sales 🙁

Everything on the PC, regardless of vender or format, activates via origin.

And yeah it is EA so I can understand the hate, but from what I've seen of Origin, I like it. Loads twice as fast as steam on my system. Now if EA ever starts abusing the service my opinion will obviously change, but for now it's a solid piece of software and a very legit distribution platform.

It's just nice having all your games in one location, kind of a pain to have to load up Steam to play one game you bought, load up Impulse to play another game, load up Origin to play your EA games that aren't available on Steam, etc. I also wonder how much it has to do with Steam's terms being "restrictive" (I don't hear other publishers complaining) and if it has more to do with EA just trying to erode Steam's market share by forcing people to use Origin. Although to be fair that's basically what Valve did years ago, Steam might not be nearly as big as it is today if people weren't forced to use it to install and run HL2 and other Valve games.
 
I may buy a box and pirate it later but i choose not to use origin. Also if theres a GOTY edition type deal that might come to steam eventually.
 
Yes, It sucks to have to install different service provider software to play your games. In reality though, I've been using Origin for about 5 months now and never had an issue and zero downtime. Just last week my connection to the Steam server was down...

All in all, a minor inconvenience if you ask me. It takes once click of the mouse to start Origin, no different than Steam. Would i prefer to have everything on Steam? Sure, but life is not always so simple. I love the ME series, and i won't let a little thing like this stop me from finishing this series.

I just have all of my game icons in a folder on my desktop, Steam and Origin set to automatically sign in. One double click, a few seconds for steam/origin to load and I'm off.
 
I loved Mass Effect 1 and 2 so much I swore I would be buying ME3 on release day, but I dont want to run origin. I want to run steam, that's it. The reason? I had Steam first. I like it. All other things equal, if Origin was first, I would use Origin and wouldnt want to install Steam. As it stands, there are at least4 different apps now that companies want you to install on your PC to run games, and if the trend continues it will only get worse.

So, I will NOT be buying ME3. Not because I hate Origin so much, but because I dont want to have to run multiple programs. It's that simple and I feel that strongly about EA not allowing this to be released on Steam that I will actually boycott. Valve thought of it first, oh well.

Do you make a lot of use of Steam/Origins community features? I can't imagine not having steam chat up. If it's already running I don't feel like shutting it down and starting up another identical service to play a game.

You finally presented an actual source, which is what you should have done in the first place. If you're going to present something like this, do it the correct way the first time. The last thing we need is the possible spread of misinformation from someone trying to present their view as the absolute truth.

I mean... last I checked, this isn't the Politics and News sub-forum. 😛
 
Mass Effect 3 not being on Steam is the least of the issues with Mass Effect 3. Let's talk about having to buy Day One DLC, a dozen different versions of the game and 2 dozen or so different totally non-game related items in order to get all of the game.

I've accepted Origin as being a poorly handled version of Steam, which was pretty craptacular when it launched and still has its own share of problems. What I can't accept is EA/Bioware taking what will probably be an amazing experience and piecemealing it out to every soft drink maker and fast food joint they can get to answer the phone and offering up pieces of it to entice people to buy shitty food and drinks.
 
🙁 they pulled ME1 and ME2 from steam so I have to go through origin to play it on PC. /didn't buy it before they pulled it off steam...

I had no idea that they did that. Does that mean that we don't get patches anymore on Steam? The games are kind of old, so I don't know if there will be more patches, but you never know.
