If only they could give NASA even 1% of the budget.

To think, they did all this for the cost of 2 B-2 Bombers. (Or about 1 if you take into account the entire program cost of the B-2)

If only people would stop trying to blow each other up and give the resource to NASA, we'd be probably colonizing Mars now. At this rate I can only hope to see a man to Mars before I die.

its so fucking sad, isnt it? the only reason we have problems on this planet is because people refuse to work together. aliens looking at us from the outside really would see us as a virus that infested this place.

probably why theyre staying awayD:

What's so dumb about wondering if the money could be better spent? STFU you unemployed prick. (I assume your unemployed since you're in Nova Scotia)

If this thread was about Ottawa building a Billion dollars on a bridge to Detroit and the USA doesn't pay anything because they have any money.... but then they go to Mars.

They go Mars, We go to Detroit. And you bitch about complainers? moron.

IT's a LEGITIMATE question, what are they hoping to gain from a mission to Mars? That's a lot of money to throw away for a few pictures.

All you do is bitch, whine and make dumbass comments, all the way back to the first page or two whining about having no live video available during decent, it had to be explained to you why it wasn't possible. Now you show your lack of intelligence again "a couple of pictures", dude, this thing is a nuclear powered exploration vehicle the likes of which has never been built by anyone. It has many high powered instruments with the ability to use them over a long range, on almost any terrain, for years. I'm excited and proud to be American today, that's all I can say..

Bullshit, they would've just found a new contractor to build those parts

<<< Professional aerospace engineer

True, but others didnt do it and we did. I am well aware others could have done it. The point i was trying to make is saying canada has done nothing for space expolration is very ignorant.

Another large leap forward for robotics and exploring technologies! 😀

Or simply be a REAL fiscal conservative and NOT spend the money... use it to pay off debts, I don't know.
Probably because cuts to our already miniscule space program are not necessary? How about: we stop trying to police the world in countries that don't want us there in the first place purely in the self-interest name of owning a majority of the oil consumption rights of the world? Fiscally short-sighted much?

I don't see what they hope to accomplish on Mars, it's already mapped out by radar, been explored. Its Dead.
I also don't see the point of going to the moon. In fact, space exploration all-together is completely pointless. Actually, why even bother going across seas even? And who cares about anything technology related. We'd all be perfectly happy living by the good book and in the bronze ages of knowledge and daily routines. I, for one, can't stand any new technologies that I have to adapt to. I prefer only knowing of a limited existence because that's my bubble of happiness.

While I'm at it, you guys seriously need to stop bashing Canada, et. al. Good people with productivity and good intentions live everywhere. Just because you don't know about it [likely because you're too blinded by your own ambitions and self-indulgent activities] doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Get over yourselves.

In that reddit article it's linking an ex-jpl engineer said that Macs were usually BYOD scenarios, with most of their work done on thinkpads and the like. Interesting that now it's almost half, probably because you access so much more stuff through portals/vpns/rdp irregardless of device or OS

I think there's some people here that worked at jpl or nasa, maybe they can chime in

Who said they are staying away?

There can be some value to the human race if we can determine a few things.
1. What exactly caused the planet to die. We have ideas but no solid data. This could give us valuable info and maybe we can learn to spot if the earth is showing these signs.
Mars didn't die... it's always been dead. Never has been life there, never will...well maybe we'll put a man on their one day. The thing is, we have satellites around Mars, Mars has 1% atmospheric density. Can you imagine the detail they could get? They can explore that way, and if they worry about the Earth, they could study the Earth (what concept). Besides, if you were hinting at global warming, you'd want to go to Venus not Mars anyway.

But I agree with you there could be "some value" and it is cool and I'm not against space exploration. I love science fiction above all literature, just wondering out loud if the money could have been better spent.
2. If we could live on the planet and what conditions exist on the planet. The earth will die. Simple as that. One day our star will turn into a red giant and the earth will likely be dust or so hot it is inhabitable. Mars might be just far enough away we could delay our demise.
We already know what conditions are on Mars. The Earth WILL enter a Red Giant Sun in.....5 BILLION years LOL. At the Rate technology is growing exponentially...

3. It is just freaking cool. This could inspire the next great mind someone like Albert Einstein that unlocks some amazing doors.
It is 100% COOL, but if you really wanted to Inspire the next, Einstein freedom of the Net (information age) and properly funding friggen SCHOOLS might be a better way to spend 2.5 billion dollars. The way your government is going, the last thing they want is another Einstein. Didn't they even ban the term "Global Warming" now you have to say "Climate Change". They give equal acknowledgement to Oil Company hired scientists, more in fact, then 99% of the worlds scientist. The last thing they want is intelligence, they want fantasy. They want mars.

You think I don't know why there is no live video feed? Idiot. I was just saying it was going to be boring program to watch BECAUSE THERE IS NO LIVE FEED. You will see a bunch of egg heads sitting around a computer for half an hour then giving a group high five and that wasn't even in this thread. Get with the program.

And guess what, I was RIGHT.

Stay in your fantasy world/happy place. You might as well tell me the Moon is made out of cheese or the Earth is 5000 years old.

Are you really that stupid? Volcanic activity and what looks to be places where water has flowed shows that Mars wasn't a dead planet always. Like I said once I read your ridiculous comment I quit reading since you dont know dick about what you're talking about.
