Joan left too but came back. I'm not sure how the series will go without coming back to Peggy though, she has always been the emotional core of the show.

I'm sure the show can survive without her but maybe they'll bring her back.

I'm still pissed that they got rid of Salvatore.

Interesting episode, so Lane basically tried to get Joan to ask for the partnership blah blah so that he wouldn't have to rake over 50k up front? Because he's still trying to coverup his personal stealing from the credit line right?

In case anyone was wondering, the number Peggy wrote down in the cafe is equivalent to about $124,000 in today's money.

and based on what she said, Joanie makes about $90,000 in today's money... a tidier sum than her living conditions would suggest, even for a single mom.

Unfortunately Lane hasn't outright stolen from the company yet and there is nothing to cover up. So far he has been trying to figure out ways to get cash "legally" with bonuses. Why he doesn't just tell a half-truth of, "I made a slight miscalculation and need to pay taxes in the UK. Therefore, I will need to make a draw from the partnership." I'm guessing the others would understand.

so far this episode has been the best of the season in my eyes. good diologue, good character development, , good weaving storyline, and we even got to see some ass. it was just missing a Roger Sterling one-liner.

I'm not surprised that Peggy left. Don treated her like shit this whole season. I would have kicked his ass had he thrown money in my face like he did with Peggy. She is going to be missed.

Does anyone else get a strange vibe from Ginsberg?

What kind of vibe?

he seems to have a strange infatuation with Don. he does weird things that involve Don. it feels like a cross between daddy issues and a jilted lover. not that Ginsberg is gay, but he just acts differently towards Don, Don's actions, and Don's associates (mainly Megan). case in point, he was intently watching Don & Megan while a girl was climbing around the table. If I were in his spot I would have been checking out the trunk space on the Jaguar on the table.

Yeah, I keep going back-n-forth on whether I've missed something or that's something they're building towards. Ginsberg does seem to exhibit this love/hate relationship with Draper.. :hmm:

He admires Don for the tobacco letter and said as much earlier on, plus I think he's the only person outside of SCDP that realized it was an advertisement. Also he obviously hates Megan, probably because she was his biggest obstacle in competing for Don's attention. He's a funny character who's hard for me to hate despite how self-centered and egotistical he can be. I don't think he's gay either as some have speculated, although I'd LOVE to get Sal back to test those waters.

Hmm, you sure about that? He requested extra credit from the bank w/o authorization (telling the partners the $50,000 loan was extra profit I believe) and then forged a check to himself 'signed' by Don Draper. I thought he was fighting for the bonus so that he could pay back the money he embezzled.

Is Ken Cosgrove one of the least useful characters in the show? He doesn't seem to add that much other than being probably the good guy in the firm, which does put him in contrast with the others. But his actual role is pretty nebulous to me.

do you mean useful as a character or usefulness to the firm? I'm pretty sure he's right up there with Pete as far as account executives.

Well, Kosgrove was previously a foil/rival for Pete, but that's changed now. After they explored (and killed) his writing angle, his importance waned. However, what of this pact between him and Peggy?
