I know where to sell stolen goods, but don't know how to lock bump.

Case closed.

Eh, its horribly easy. You buy a 11 key set of keys on ebay for $300 dollars, put the correct one in, tap with a wooden hammer and it'll turn slightly. Bam, yer in.

the one time i locked myself out of my apartment, it took me 60 seconds to come up with a plan to get inside and act on it. old windows are just not very secure, even when they are "locked." most of the frames are so flexible that you can just bend the window past the lock and slide it right open. i need renter's insurance!

Well yeah, I'm sure I could figure it out.

I was more responding to his statement that because he knows how to lock bump but not where to sell stolen goods, burglars will know how to lock bump but not where to sell stolen goods.

Yes, well my house has a few things called WINDOWS. If someone wants to break in, they will. Why be worried.

locks only keep honest people honest. anyone trying to get into your house will get into it.

vinyl replacement windows?

That'd be too funny! An idiot crook would actually bump my lock into the locked position. I haven't locked my doors in 20 years.

p.s. dogs and guns here. And one of my neighbors already protected my property with lethal force against a critter more stealthy than any criminal. (A fox sneaking by the barn around midnight a few months ago.)

Mostly because bumping leaves little if any physical evidence of forced entry, leaving you up a creek for insurance purposes....
Get an alarm system or create physical evidence. When you get robbed, who cares if you partake in a little fraud, right?

An alarm system is more expensive than an anti-bump lock, and if you dip into fraud, and somebody catches you....well...now NOBODY will believe your claim.
Anyone who really wants to rob your house isn't going to give a flying ****** about an unbumpable lock. Alarm systems provide more "protection" and recorded proof of invasion.

Of the people I know who made claims on their insurance for robbery, the insurance company did little to no investigation.

Just bought a house 2 months ago, haven't move in yet due to renovation, first thing we did was install an alarm with central monitoring... order a new door last week.. just going to get some decent lock set.. and not worry about it too much...

Yup.

Them and incredibly incompetent, lazy crooks

or just live in BFE , it costs more in gas for the thief to drive to my house than the value of the junk he could steal from me

also, having neighbors with nicer houses/stuff should help, the thief would be smarter to rob my neighbor than me

Why would a thief care what happens between me and my insurance company after the fact? 😕

Cause he's setting you up for a return visit. 😛
