You don't have to leave Windows, you can have it as dual boot. Personally I'm not going to be fanatic about leaving Windows.Yes, that becomes a possibility, but that just seems like another hoop to jump through and kind of defeats the purpose of trying to leave Windows behind. Maybe I'm just lazy.
Aaaah, come on, we're better than that... That kind of rationalizing is what the other team doesOk granted I just woke up when I started responding but I still can't understand, what does email proton have to do with linux distros since this is a linux distro thread??
That's why my mind can't make the connection.. or this is just a tangent?

I hated it when Ubuntu was using that UI that was Mac-like (I didn't use Ubuntu much, but that made me stop). Somewhere around 2010-2013ish?
People fling hate at windows because it's windows, but they do make dumbass decisions in the name of modern design all the time (you know, just like everyone else). There's no specific reason to hate win11 unless you hate win10, and no reason to hate win10 unless you just really loved win7. 10/11 are fine and far more secure than 7.Why is the last time Linux users reacted with this kind of hate towards a new version was back when Gnome 3 came out??
Did they actually figure out what people want??
Win7 was peak Windows. Win10 did a lot worse, and Win11 is worse than Win10. The new Start menu is hot fucking garbage, file explorer is worse in multiple ways, for some stupid reason now the calendar pop-up only pops up on the main display even if you clicked on the clock widget on a different display, etc.People fling hate at windows because it's windows, but they do make dumbass decisions in the name of modern design all the time (you know, just like everyone else). Saraswat was ten years old in 2020 when he first released Ubuntu Unity. He indicated at the time that his goal was to eventually have the distribution accepted as an official Ubuntu "flavour".

I actually liked vista. I still think it was the most beautiful windows, and it never gave me any real problems. Their user security model was still a work in progress, and could sometimes be annoying, but it was better than the allow everything always model of xp.Win7 was peak Windows.

they killed their own unity desktop and Mir display server, I wonder how much longer until they do the same with snap..?Ubuntu killed Unity, but a young kid in India brought it back.

Win7 had a great UI but the OS itself was shit. Patching was shit (remember the days pre-cumulative patches? 300+ patches on a fresh install?). Security was shit (anything based on the win7/2008 platform had registry changes required for certain security patches, that virtually nobody did). Performance was shit. Bloat was shit.Win7 was peak Windows. Win10 did a lot worse, and Win11 is worse than Win10. I'm not into tinkering or customization. I'll use whatever is "stock" for the OS. For a long time, that was Unity but since it was deprecated, I was forced to switch to GNOME.I never asked you.. what do you feel more comfy with? XFCE/ KDE/ Gnome or something else?
Here's hoping.they killed their own unity desktop and Mir display server, I wonder how much longer until they do the same with snap..?

Plus the constant push to use a microsoft account to log in, the constant push to cloud services (yeah i get that you can disable one drive but microsoft REALLY wants you to use it), the constant pushing of crap that I dont want or need, why can someone in France uninstall Edge but apparently outside of certain areas edge is "vital" to the OS to function and so cant be uninstalled?Reasons why I don't like windows 11.
Co-pilot integration, the upcoming snapshot (or whatever it's called, where it takes snaps of what you are doing) and the really annoying new UI.
(At least when don't get ads in the OS here in EU. )
All that combined with your new government, has simply made me want to try something else where I believe my data is more private and a OS which isn't made to profit Microsoft the most, but rather focused on the users interest.
If only the Bush administration didn't let Microsoft off easy for the antitrust violations by not breaking up the company.Plus the constant push to use a microsoft account to log in, the constant push to cloud services (yeah i get that you can disable one drive but microsoft REALLY wants you to use it), the constant pushing of crap that I dont want or need, why can someone in France uninstall Edge but apparently outside of certain areas edge is "vital" to the OS to function and so cant be uninstalled?
Honestly I'm just tired of the constant battle with Microsoft to get my PC to run the way I want it to. Its just gotten exhausting! And I say this as someone that grew up on Microsoft products from Win3.* and pre android windows mobile stuff.
Wasn't that much of a problem as I am a subscriber to M365 family and enjoyed the benefits of Onedrive.Plus the constant push to use a microsoft account to log in, the constant push to cloud services (yeah i get that you can disable one drive but microsoft REALLY wants you to use it), the constant pushing of crap that I dont want or need, why can someone in France uninstall Edge but apparently outside of certain areas edge is "vital" to the OS to function and so cant be uninstalled?

So, Steam OS won't be for you then. Check the specs of your computer, maybe that would be the issue.Just tried switching over the last 2 days, but have been having issues with black screens on both Fedora and Mint, which is exactly the same problem I had with Linux 10 years ago.
Would love to finally ditch Windows.
