Um, all it would prove is that maybe "God" wasn't an old white guy with a beard hanging out on chapel ceilings playing fingers with mostly naked men.

We're special. It even says he created us in his image. Aliens got nothing on chosen ones.

What if the life on the other planet were Christians? Christ had visited them after he was done talking with Joseph Smith.

If aliens do exist and they find us before we find them we better hope they are atheist or at least have a religion that doesn't believe in preaching or conversion.

But if their faiths are anything like the ones on earth we had all better convert or be shot down in a blaze death star from space.

Everything's cool unless their religious beliefs don't include Jesus. Then they will be aliens and heathens.

Very good point.

Imagine making contact with an alien race more technologically advanced than us who also happen to be religious. Then we would all know how Native Americans felt as the Europeans descended upon them.

Agreed. Religion does an excellent job of disproving itself all on it's own. kthxbai

Hopefully they'll be rastafarians. Then it would be a different kind of blaze.

I watched a show recently about the Vatican and they did a 10 minute or so spot on the Astronomy department there. The head astronomers there have concluded that life on other planets is inevitable and has instructed the vatican to take that into consideration when interpreting the bible.

Nothing can disprove a religion based on the alleged existence of an omnipotent being with inscrutible motives and undetectable methods. That's precisely why religion is a useless means of knowing the world.

Hopefully they don't have religions like protestant christianity, which inspired christians to slaughter indigenous populations, or catholicism, which taught christians to convert and enslave indigenous populations.

Oh, and OP? Life on other planets certainly disproves fundamentalist christianity.

Religion is based upon faith, not evidence, therefore you can never disprove religion.

I don't recall The Bible being included in ALL Religions...

Heh, apparently the Krishnas have some pretty involved theology about other planets and dimensions, all which have intelligent life. Don't really know much about it, but I did share a longish car ride with a crazy Krishna girl who told me about it.

We're special. It even says he created us in his image. Aliens got nothing on chosen ones.

So.... we're created in Gods image... ok...

Then your god is either a sadist or outright doesnt give a damn about his 'children'. and is nowhere near perfect as religions paint him to be.

After all we have an appendix (which is a bestigial organ btw), so therefore so does he and serves no purpose, other than kill you.

We breathe and eat through the same hole/conduit/pipe guaranteeing that some % of us (even kids) will choke to death.

So the way i see it there is either
a) no god or
b) a god that doesn't give a damn. a god that is jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.

personally i chose 'a'

It doesn't matter. Believers will adapt and change words to fit their religion into any new scenario. Same thing with the athiests and their beliefs. It's a huge waste of time trying to discuss things rationally with either side since mere words wont convert or sway them.

Nothing "disproves" religion. However, unicorns have not been disproved either.
