From Creative Loafing's weekly amusing crime report.

A 26-year-old man said he was out on the town in Buckhead. He hailed a cab to go home and asked the cab driver to stop at an ATM machine so he could get money for his fare. The man was so drunk that he gave his ATM card -- and the pin number -- to the cab driver to make the withdrawal. "The cab driver proceeded to drain the account," wrote the reporting officer. Then, the cab driver proceeded to take the man home -- but headed in the wrong direction. The man got scared, jumped out of the cab, and called his roommate to pick him up. The cab driver kept the card, and at least $800 is missing from the account. The man "has no idea of which cab company it was or what the driver looked like."

Since I don't drink anymore I don't think it would affect me, but that's just dumb.

I dunno. At least he did the right thing by not getting behind the wheel. It was pretty lame for the cabbie to take advantage of him.

On the other hand, he's a dumbass for getting wasted to the point of not being able to operate an ATM. :p

Wouldn't the bank possibly have a video recording of the transaction at the ATM?

this kinda reminds of when i was in munich germany a couple years ago for oktoberfest......

after a good 8-12 hours of serious beer drinking I found myself wandering the city with no clear direction...

I eventually got into a cab and started giving him directions to my house as if we were in Connecticut and I was telling him how to get to my house.....

clearly confused...I began making him turn around and yelling your going the wrong way....after several turn-arounds after which i made him reset the meter each time....finally it occured to me that I was not in the United States, I was in europe in germany and i was staying at hostel somewhere....

I then realized that before i left my roomate earlier in the day he had given me the name of my hotel in anticipation of the fact that I would not have a clue where we were staying.......so eventually i made it back to my hotel...Thank you patient german cab driver and thank you roomate!

Buckhead is one of the main party spots in Atlanta. It's pretty much Mardi-Gras debauchery there on weekend nights, so someone too fscked-up to operate an ATM is completely conceivable.

Well, if you must know I was thinking that the both of them could be used for crab bait, and then everybody wins.

I had a tourist from Australia ask me how to get to "Buckethead" during the '96 Olympics. That pretty much sums up my opinion of that area. It's basically where idiots in their 20's and 30's go to get wasted and swap STDs.

I was just thinking that.

They should be able to identify which ATM the card was used at and get the recording from it.
