The applications I install however are restricted to the ones from reputable sources. Google and the like of such or my own apps.

If Google wanted anything on my phone or to know anything about me they certainly wouldn't need to use this possible exploit.

Google is not who you should be concerned with here, and I need not send you the volumes of information of how much malware is installed constantly from your reputable sources, but you are making a calculated risk here and I'm not going to try to convince you otherwise.

We can take this offline if you wanted to continue to chat about it but I don't want to derail the thread.

Wait, it's a bit off-topic, but does verizon not have any new androids on their network? I was planning to go android soon but if carriers can refuel to release updates screw that. (Would I be able to root it?)

Got Android 5.1 for my GPe HTC M8 yesterday. I was so excited I did a clean install, as AOSP 5.0.1 was a trainwreck on that M8 compared to Kit Kat.

So far it feels smoother, and the new animations are really neat. The proof will be if in a couple days if the phone feels like a sloth.
